I just want to say thanks guys for the clarifications. I think for the fun of it I'll be building mine with a through-hole kit. I just feel like I'll have more fun modding it, and it'll look older and cooler. :)

Also planning to add a CW tone generator to it.

I have a BITX 20m v.3 PA PCB from the ebay shop of Sunil VU3SUA. It has two amplifier stages and two transformers. The description says it can be modified for 40m. But it does not say how.

How many bifilar turns on FT37-43 should I use for the driver and final transformers when I build for 40 meter / 7mHz?

Thank you.

In the case of the 470 ufd, it is rated 25 volts. If replacing with a 220 ufd use 25 volts as well.

Number that most are referring to is the black marker pen hand written number?
along one edge, usually near the "BITX40v3, (C) " label.? It is not
so much a Serial Number as it is the number of boards shipped (mine is number
124).

Someone asked earlier about the HF mixer transformers T1 and T2.....they
appear to be? 10-turns trifilar twisted conductors on an FT37-43 core.? Same
for T-4, T-5, T-6, and T-7.?? These would be typical broadband transmission-line
style transformers with turns ratio of 10:10:10.?

Hi Ken,

No I haven't had much time over the holiday with my Family being around, however, the first thing I'm going to do is change that 450mfd snubber cap on the output of the LM386 to a 220. If you remove the cap between pins 1 and 8 of the 386 chip that will lower the gain and make it sound better already, (mine was distorting real bad), then change the 450 to a 220 for less bass. Hopefully it won't go into oscillation.

As I tune the vfo from the lower end of the band and up, the closer I get to the end of the band, signal ?strength drops. Is this due to the BPF?

For some months now, we have been working at a low cost, single board QRP SSB transceiver module based on the BITX design. So here is BITX transceiver module for $45. It is 7 MHz, 5 watt SSB transceiver board. Fully tested and working. Something that you can easily fit into a box/case of your choice to make that portable or base station rig. This is an all analog radio with sparkling receiver that takes just 150 ma current and transmitter that providers well over 5 watts of clean audio.

The price of $45 includes international shipping. For shipping related questions, you should write to hfsignals@.... The technical queries can be discussed here.

Hi Mark, I confirm the drift problem, if you change the six resistor from 100 to 220 ohm this help realy in RX mode. But in TX mode the problem return mybe becauae the PA warm up all the PCB...and make difficult voice qso and impossibile the use with Digital modes. I decide to move to DDS, already Done some tests and it work well. You Can use also an external analog VFO if you want. More info on blog site of hack page.?

Anyone up for a BitX-Net?

Ok, now there's nearly enough of us around to *nearly* make a Net.

Regional, probably - unless you're perched on the coast of Maine, with a Log-Periodic
pointed to the European continent, of course.

I have officially achieved Transmit.
Nice too - I had to back down my BFO frequency (as measured) by about 300 Hz just
to get the audio right (tested with my Yaesu FT-897 listening via dummy load).

I have a pesky short somewhere - in jiggling the board, there's something up around the PA power
area, so before I run it up to 24VDC PA power, I'll have to suss that out.

Thanks to M. Farhan and his collective, and the group.
