Re: Bitx40 audio

Good stuff Joel. I am very pleased with the BItx40, even though the sound is bassy. I'll(you'll) will figure it out.

I'm actually thing of making it into a 40/20 rig. Just getting used to the arduino code.

Well, I had to finally ask after many QSOs because nobody ever made a comment on my audio. As it turns out everybody thinks I'm on a "big rig", the audio reports are excellent using my homemade electret mic, built in a ink pen housing. I'm even growing accustom to the receive audio even though a little bassy. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with the BitX40.

Ken,

I did that also today and noticed no affect at all. I think the changes need to be made further up the audio chain before it gets to the amp. I just have too many irons in the fire to try anything, except I do check into a Net everyday with it.

I tried the 1nf cap and 10k resistor mod on pins 1/5 and no go. Has no affect on the audio. I'll give the 220 ufd change.

Hi!

While doing these mods try a 1nf cap in series with 10k resistor between pin 1 and 5 this also helps with the audio.

Thanks Joel.

I removed the cap at Pin1 & 8 long ago and that helped a lot. I'll try the 470 later today.

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

Hi Ken,

No I haven't had much time over the holiday with my Family being around, however, the first thing I'm going to do is change that 450mfd snubber cap on the output of the LM386 to a 220. If you remove the cap between pins 1 and 8 of the 386 chip that will lower the gain and make it sound better already, (mine was distorting real bad), then change the 450 to a 220 for less bass. Hopefully it won't go into oscillation.

Hi Joel

Did you ever check out the caps for the bassy audio?

I've finally hooked up a 5351 to the Bitx40. In testing I noticed two things(not related to the 5351)

The audio is very 'bassy' sounding. Is there some way to improve the quality or does the BFO have to be moved slightly?

As I tune the vfo from the lower end of the band and up, the closer I get to the end of the band, signal ?strength drops. Is this due to the BPF?
