Re: Ubit 6 & KD8CEC

Hi Jonathan
I am about to do the exact same thing and purchased this Nextion:

Which I basically pulled from the same youtube video.? There have been discussion threads about different versions of the Nextion and different versions of the CEC code so glad you had success.

Can you confirm if this is the Nextion you used?? I may want to separately Whatsapp you for details while doing this.? You possibly up for that?? I am also building in the same S meter referenced in the video as well.
Thanks in Advance for any guidance.

There's no need for any metalwork on the case to fit the 2.8 screen, if you feel a bit brave: I followed the Youtube video from Lockdown Electronics:

I used my Dremel to gently widen the mounting holes on the Nextion board - it only requires 2-3mm each side - and then you can use the existing mounting stands & case holes. The screen centres nicely in the window and is fixed securely.

Re: Connecting the sBitx Digital Audio Board to a x86 PC

Other option for me which needs a x86 CPU, could be a Rock Pi X, which already has the 40-pin raspberry header and uses the same form factor of the Pi:

Executable File & User Settings #sBitx

Anthony Good

Hi Ashhar,

I would highly recommend that the "live" sbitx executable file, macro files, and user settings be moved out of the user¡¯s git directory and be placed elsewhere. I noticed the sbitx executable and user settings file makes pull requests become unmergable. This is easily fixable, but will be an ongoing issue. As I believe someone else mentioned, there are conflicts with the user settings file that is pushed via git pull and the user¡¯s settings file. Perhaps there should be a versioning method in the user setting file which the executable checks at runtime and informs the user if they need to update the user setting file from git. This will likely happen as new features which include new settings are added to the settings file.

I¡¯d be happy to work on the user settings file version functionality and also a script users could run (i.e. ¡°install¡± or ¡°update¡±) to place the executable and macros in another directory from their git directory, and give the option of keeping their existing user settings file, or overwriting or appending new settings from git.

KK7BCO,? DISCLAIMER -? I'm not sure about the original stock firmware as all of my radios have been modded with Nextion displays and the KD8CEC firmware.?

All I have needed was a USB sound card dongle to my laptop to provide a mic and phone jack and a USB cable to the Nano on the Raduino.? If you are using a desktop PC the dongle probably wouldn't be needed.

Re: Funtronics uBitx digi interface installation in V6

Any links to messages for these thousands you speak of??

I used a decoder when learning CW to verify if I was copying correctly. I also used a decoder when learning to send CW. If it copied me correctly my code wasn't to bad, If it couldn't then I had more work to do on those letters/numbers.

Re: #sbitx: Raspberry Pi Heatsink?

If it was just sitting there on, but not doing much, then that is not much of a test. You measured the temp with it indoors and sitting there. What will happen if you use it portable on a hot day? And the software for all the applications and modes is not finished yet so you really don't know. They WILL get hot during high CPU usage and throttle back(slow down). Lots of Pi users (including myself) have had to add a fan to keep them cool if the application is CPU intensive.

Mine has small paste-on heat sinks, but that's because I had already installed them when I was using that Pi for other purposes; I bought the basic kit. (I have switched to an RPi Model 400 for what the one in my sBitx used to do.) If you want to install heat sinks similar to mine they won't do any harm, and might help if you operate your sBitx in very hot conditions (say, on a picnic table in the sun); they are readily available for a couple of dollars. A more substantial heat sink like one of the tall tower ones (with or without fan) should never be necessary, and might cause a problem fitting the Pi into the sBitx case.

If you go the Nextion route, here is a link to someone that has done this:

I have also seen Raduino clones with a "nextion" on Ebay advertised as a plug and play (well there is some sheet metal work to fit the 2.8" Nextion)

Github repository for KD8CEC Nextion screens

I have created a github repository for Nextion screens used with the KD8CEC software.? The repository lives at:

This repository includes not only the original screens designed by Ian Lee, but all the additional ones that folks have contributed and filed in the "Files" section. Hopefully, this will allow folks to more quickly find the appropriate screen files or create a foundation on which to design their own. I have done my best to try to find everything, but I am sure i missed quite a few. I have also tried to credit where credit is due.

If you have some screens not listed (or feel I did not properly attribute effort to an author), please reach out to me via private groupio email or you can look up my email on QRZ. It would be really nice to get more ".hmi" files as well as original artwork.?
