Re: uBITX V6 Maximum "Safe" Voltage

Hi,

For anyone that may be interested, I just checked what version uBitx I have -- that I'm running on 14.0 volts.

Looks like I have a V3 (2017) board. The audio amp is a?UTC2822M. The chip is mounted in a socket.

Doesn't seem that long ago when I ordered this radio and was very excited when the DHL package from far far away, arrived at my door.

Curt this statement you wrote is incorrect:
Note the ubitx makes cw transmit by leaking 45 MHz RF direct through the last mixer.
On CW transmit the clock #2 to the first unbalanced mixer before Q90 is at the operating frequency and the other two clocks (#1 & 0) are turned off during CW transmit. This is per the circuit description for the UBITX on HFSignal¡¯s website.
I would check if you are getting DC bias voltage to R104 from pin 13 of the Raduino when you close your CW key. Also clean the contacts of your key they could be dirty giving the key input to the Arduino a false level.

Re: uBitX problem

Well I found what was causing the voltage problems...after checking all around the system I recalled that I had replaced a leaded 2N3904 with a 2N2222A for Q90 since they are equivalent, right? Well, yes, but the pin outs are reversed and even further from the original pin layout of the original SMD 3904. Correcting that mistake now gives correct voltages on all transmit transistors from Q90 on through the finals.

However, still no power out. It is oscillating on frequency and sounds fine...just no measurable power. Raj, I do get blocking action on C80, so can I just bridge it with a leaded cap of the appropriate value? I haven't touched RV1, but maybe I just swing that through its range as well. After spending literally hours on it this afternoon, though, I am going to take a break before moving forward now.

Re: uBit-x CW gone #ubitxcw

Check the solder joint on the cw pull up resistor. Oh and check your key and wiring too.?

Note the ubitx makes cw transmit by leaking 45 MHz RF direct through the last mixer. I am doubting likely failure of the few parts on the board.?

Hi,

Most picture formats are blocked from going in the Files section, so they should be going on the Photos section.

For me too, it is much easier to set the emails to specian notice only, and then access the forums through the groups.io website.

I have a new, assembled uBitx V6 available.? I received it new in January and out of box, I could not get it to work well in CW mode, which was my intended use, and the mic was inop, replaced by HF Signals.? I posted here in forum about possible help working on it and upgrading it to new firmware and thanks so much to those who offered to help.? However, I'm 71y & have concluded this little rig is just not for me - I just do not have the interest or knowledge to tweak it.? It has not been modified in any way.?

Details:? This is the full unit with factory supplied chassis.? I powder-coated the chassis case red and it looks great but not perfect.? The unit will include the inop and unassembled original mic, the new HFSignals mic, and an AGC add-on board kit from kit-projects that has never been installed.? Note the top rear cover screw bolt that is rivetted to the frame is loose.? Obviously, it is being sold as is but it does work.? It just needs some TLC and I don't have the will to do that.? I'm asking $150 with free shipping to lower 48 - Paypal preferred.? If you have any questions or want any photos, let me know at?nd1j@....? ?Thanks & 73,

Re: Some capture from sbitx

Ashhar,
Thank you so much for all your work on this project.? I am hoping the sBITx will be my first HF Transceiver, and I eagerly await its availability.?
I have a few questions:

Firstly, If a 3G/4G hat was used on the PI could that be used for all of the internet based functions when out in the field?
example:??

Also,? Is there a timeline for availability of the sBITx?? Maybe an option where the end user supplies their own display and Pi 4B?

Lastly,? will additional displays be functional when using the Pi touchscreen?

I agree with these sentiments.? For most of the 90's I was stuck with dialup
service while the public use of the Internet was exploding.? The developers and
'Influencers' all seemed to have unlimited broadband access, so they accelerated
the use of gratuitous graphics, with no concern for the majority of internet
users who had 56k or slower intermittent connections at that time.
? 'Just use Delete' isn't the answer.? A large bloated message in your Inbox
will hang up your connection until its fully downloaded, and will delay or
prevent the delivery of many smaller messages until it is complete.
? A possible workaround for the user is the IMAP protocol rather than POP3 for
mail delivery.? IMAP allows for the download of just the index of available
messages, so that the user can selectively download them, or delete them on the
server unread.? Most web browsers have an option to suppress the display of all
graphics unless individually requested.? I used this as an advertisement blocker
for many years.
? A question for the group administrator:? The Groups.io service has many
options, including the 'Forum' mode you mention above.? I believe it also has a
'files' section reserved for each group, and I've seen some groups encourage its
use in preference to attachments.? Does Groups.io also have an option to
automatically strip attachments from all posted messages, and convert them to
links into the groups 'files' section?? This would also eliminate the duplicate
bloat which happens when users include the images again in their reply messages.
? Hopefully the threading capability of the forum can also detect and suppress
the full quotation of previous messages, which easily becomes its own form of
bloat.

That's not the issue. Each post is stored on the groups.io server and the capacity depends on the type of account you have. My group is much smaller than this one, but four years ago members ate through the "free" storage so I increased capacity, but it was no longer free. I paid the first couple of years out of my own pocket, but last year the bloat was such that I had to go to the next level. Now we're talking about something greater than pocket change.

The point is: delete doesn't do much good on the server side. You can help your admin by only sending what is necessary to understand the post. If need be, refer to the early post number for support info that doesn't need to be sent twice.

Re: AGC #v4

On my v4, added in an amp board from some old computer speakers. Just hooked the power to the main connector and fed the output of the uBITX to input of the amp.

I removed the external controls, soldering in fixed resistors or jumpers and mounted it in the uBITX case.? Took off all the jacks. It is about as loud at 25% on the volume control as it was at full. Still the unit doesn't add any appreciable distortion or noise.?

My amp was not SMD construction.?

My V6 presently has its original firmware.? I will be using FLDIGI as a modem program, as the station computer (a Lenovo T410) runs Linux Mint rather than "Bill's Bugdoze".? The sound card will be a Rig Expert from? Kiev, Ukraine.? Its driver is already part of Linux.

Re: firmware fir digital modes? #firmware

uBitx has a Arduino with USB serial port. The CAT code is implemented in the firmware and it is very simple to read and understand. If CAT does not work for you, or you are doing something wrong, or if there is an issue, it will be possible to fix it, as the firmware of uBitx is free software.

I only use the uBitx with CAT, and disabled physical PTT, screen and other stuff. If the default Ashhar firmware works better for you, just swap the ubitx_cat.cpp from Reed's repo by the Ashhar one and try it out. But if it still does not work, then it could be some delay may be cause by the graphics functions...? just guessing here.

Btw, both Ashhar and Reed's firmware implements Yaesu FT817 CAT syntax (but you could use any "standard"... I implemented my own CAT code, which I think it is more sane and expose commands to change BFO, mastercal and other features add in ubitx' mods: )

Hardware wise, CAT (USB serial communication) definitely works.

Cheers,
Rafael
