Re: New kit: QDX - Digital Transceiver by QRP Labs
Hi Laurence? > Hans,? Are you taking pre-orders > for?the next lot? No. You've heard of the global semiconductor shortage... The STM32F401RBT6 microcontroller in the QDX can't be found anywhere. I can't make more QDX until I can either find some, or figure out a substitute and whatever Re-development is necessary to make that work. At the moment I don't know when that can happen. I wouldn't take pre-orders until I could be very definite about dates.? 73 Hans G0UPL http://qrp-labs.com |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýFast indeed... and the checkout kept crashing as everyone was trying to get in (looks like the shop could use a beefier server).? I think I have one ordered, but after all the starts and restarts, I can't really tell...

I believe that changing the 30MHz low pass filter to a 70MHz band pass filter and modifying the code to allow 4m operation should be enough to have a 4m exiter and receiver.
Naturally the PA would need to be rebuilt and on 4m one would want a preamp. There's also the qustion if the 45MHz IF will cause any funky things.? It is 70MHz/2 after all. But the frontend mixer should be perfectly fine on 4m. That said, I do have one of those Ukranian transverters waiting proper installation into a case. |
Re: TSW's remake of our Teensy 4.1 Raduino Clone firmware
#ubitxv6
Hi Ken, The TSW kit is a replacement for the factory Raduino that's included with a uBITX.? Our kit uses the original factory 2.8" TFT color touch display and you have to order a Teensy 4.1 from either PJRC.com or one of their distributors separately.? We can't sell the Teensy with the kit as we are not distributors for PJRC and we have to pay full retail for them ourselves.? If you do, order the Teensy without pins as it has to mount upside down on the back of the T4.1 Raduino PCB just like the NANO does on the factory PCB. Once you build the kit, install the Teensy 4.1 and flash the firmware, it takes the place of the Factory's Raduino and VASTLY improves the operation. The KB/Mouse option needs the addition of a USB type "A" female to 5 pin Dupont female cable for USB "Host" mode, available very inexpensively from PJRC.com and you will need to replace the original USB type B "Mini" with a type B "Micro" extension cable between the MPU and back panel.? These should be about 1 foot long and are available from various sources including Amazon. Hope I've answered your questions. Jim - W0EB

Subject: Re: [BITX20] TSW's remake of our Teensy 4.1 Raduino Clone firmware #ubitxv6 Jim, Excellent work, kudos to all involved! I have drifted away from the uBitx 'scene' for a while and find myself confused about what is involved in taking advantage of your work here, could you describe, at a high-level, what's involved is loading this software onto one's 'stock' uBitx v6? From my reading of your attached manual it appears I need to secure a "teensy 4.1" and replace the stock raduino with the "teensy 4.1", and with your software installed I should be good to go. There also appears to be an option to add external keyboard/mouse support to allow controlling the radio without touching the front panel. Am I understanding the process correctly? Would a "simple" (my word) swap for the Teensy 4.1 suffice, or would I need something else to take advantage of what your updated software offers? Thanks, Ken, N2VIP On Oct 10, 2021, at 11:53, Jim Sheldon <w0eb@...> wrote:

Steve, There is a kit (or you can just buy the pcb) produced by Sam, G4DDK.? I have no connection with him other than having bought one of his boards.
Another possibility is look at the io group [email protected]? This group is run by Chris Bryant, G3WIE.? This is more up to you how you go about it, and might mean getting your own board made from a loow cost pcb supplier. I think all the necessary information is there if you want to built it.? TSW Price Reduction on the Teensy 4.1 Raduino Clone Kit
#ubitxv6
FYI, we've closely calculated current parts costs plus labor to solder the 5351 chip on the kit's PCB and check all connections.? We found that we can sell the full kits for $35 USD (this is a kit, less the Teensy 4.1 and display) if we have the user pay the shipping (due to current increases in mailing/shipping costs by USPS and the various courier services we have to use).
There are some restrictions for international customers, and these are spelled out on the TSW website main page () as well as ordering information. Thanks for looking, Jim - W0EB TSW Project Coordinator |
Re: New kit: QDX - Digital Transceiver by QRP Labs
FreeDV is a framework that incorporates the Codec2 voice codec and various modems. The usual modems on HF use OFDM modulation; multiple carriers, so not suitable for the QDX. On Sun, Oct 10, 2021 at 11:59 PM Buddy Brannan <buddy@...> wrote: So¡idle question really, but ¡ |

Given that this outputs digit modes using a sound card, could it be used for FreeDV? Very narrow digital voice mode: Pretty interesting if it could. Of course, if it won¡¯t tune past the Digital portions of the band, I guess the point is moot, but still, idly curious. Buddy Brannan, KB5ELV - Erie, PA Email: buddy@... Steve I use an LC network to load a 55 foot end-fed wire for an original BITX, and for my uBITX.? The inductor is a roller coil from an ARC-5 transmitter. This with a Stockton bridge for SWR management lets me operate on almost any band.? If an adequate variable capacitor is not available, one can be fabricated from blank PCB material.? It is also possible to use several fixed value capacitors to tune just above each band and make a small variable cap to get lowest reflected power on each band. Several on this group have built stepper motor activated antenna tuners, and a few have built DC motor tuners.? Most of these use an Arduino to manage the tuner.
