Re: split the group

Interesting, but we still have lots of commonality.? Problems - well many of these are common between v3 and v4 - that owners may wish to still use and advance.? display and other upgrades may apply to all or several versions.? v6 is merely the new generation.? we also have different audiences for those enjoying a basic ubitx rig and one that is highly tricked out.? I think its best we stay together.? Be patient to be in community with all ubitx owners.?

enjoy your build and radiations.?

Re: custom filter for ubitx 4

Richard

not entirely sure 'what' custom filter opportunity you are referencing - but 'board headers' seems to be a clue.?

I remember there are pad features to interface with a second crystal filter - this topic has certainly been on the lit.? if you seek CW - a good CW filter is best at a much lower IF than 12 MHz.? its easy to make from lower frequency xtals - designs abound.? the 'bad news' - need to to add some firmware instruction to retune the BFO when doing CW.? it needs to be proven (if it hasn't been) - but it is possible that the SSB 12 MHz and a say 4.9 or 5 MHz CW filter could co-exist in parallel without switching.?

other v4 filters of interest - well something to reduce mixer spurious at 45 MHz.? v5 adds an LC filter.? I tried it on v4, in itself it does not have enough Q - so I suspect its part of a set of solutions.? adding a second 45 MHz xtal stage is popular - as reported here I tried it, it greatly reduced my CW transmit output.? I have since added SMT inductors with some shielding on the primary 45 MHz filter, so possibly it will work better - when I try it again.?

for CW and narrower bandwidth SSB - I am using a NESCAF audio filter that I am happy with.?

Hi,

Yes for sure Bill.? Everyone should add a hashtag to their post based on the subject.? Most needed ones already exist. Just choose the appropriate one and it will be added automaticaly to your subject line.

Notice, if you click on "Hashtag" on the left, you can mute whatever topic you don't want to receive.? Easy!

Very nice! I wonder what the current draw looks like with the new display? I wonder if it¡¯s more or less than the stock TFT??

Thanks for sharing

Y'all are kinda mean!? I think it's a legitimate question to ask.

I agree the group should not be split, I don't agree with just dismissing the question.?

I also think if we do better at putting the version / hashtag in the subject, it will be easier for readers to ignore messages that don't apply to them.? So please be sure to use #v4, #v5, #v6, etc. in your subject to help everybody!

anyone have a schematic and or know where to find one for the v4 as it has the board headers for 1

Nice work, Barb! I wondered how hard it would be to do that.

Here we go again. It seems every time a new version of one of the Bitx products, calls to split the group, create subgroups, add hashtags, etc come up. It's not likely to happen and most folks here don't want it to happen.

Have you set the BFO?

I am unable to get a base ref freq of 10 MHz to start with; mine will
only adjust to 10500. I have set BFO to 11.055.

I am unable to hear strong HF white noise and/or any of the CHU Canada
or WWV time broadcasts but I can obtain a couple of AM broadcast
stations; however the demodulated audio not being in AM mode is Donald
Ducky sounding but partially intelligent albeit rather weak both on
built in speaker and/or on ext powered amplified USB speaker connected
via the SPKR jack.

I am unable to tune through either side of the signal to get to get rid
of the donald duck sounding?? quality audio signal to listen to.

Seems as though audio passband is so narrow or restricted that listening
to a full sideband { 300-3000 Hz} is not possible. Is there a
calibration or software adjustment I can make on an immediate or test
basis using the Arduino immediate editor to adjust this. I am not very
happy with the receive so far.

I have the Arduino IDE installed per online instructions but not experienced
in using it regularly yet. (haven't got enough practical time/experience to sort
out the 17M unselectable fix yet even.

Also I noticed when I set the freq to anything below 1 MHz like 920KHz,
990Khz or 680 KHz and save it the VFO indicator adds an extra zero in
the display so 990AM KHz would appear as 9.9MHz on the display but the
audio signal is the 990 AM audio. If I select 1290 KHz?? AM the VFO
display reads correctly and audio is what I expect to hear (except for
the water barrel or Donald Ducky audio quality).

I have a kiwiSDR registered on sdr.hu under my callsign name and it can
produce reasonable sigs for WWV and CHU yet the BITXv6 doesn't when I
compare it.

Any suggestions? all help/tips gratefully accepted.

Farhan has said that his radios are for experimenters. I just got a v6, still having a 20 and two others in various stages of undress next to my work bench. Now I am interested in v6 but seeing the post about the older radios I an incentive to go back to the other three.?

There is some information that is common to all versions, or to multiple versions.?
Splitting the group would defeat the purpose of a general information discussion
group.?

Threads can be used to isolate specific topics, as long as the threads are not

Re: CW Audio High Pitched and Thin #cw

Hello Dean,

I noticed your post remained without replies.

In the CEC software there is a separate setting for the VFO in CW mode.

Go to settings and select Adjust CW VFO.

Hope that helps.

@Jim Sheldon, in this case it would be advisable to read and note the original calibration settings before doing the actual install of a new firmware.

Also as far as I understood the findings of KD8CEC a new firmware does not change the stored calibration values.

The KD8CEC Memory Manager software could be used to read the original values before doing any changes.

Re: uBITX V6 heat sink temperature

I'd guess it does get to 125 C for some of those putting a big display on an old Raduino?
with no heat sink for the LM7805.

But probably won't destroy anything, just shut down when the LM7805 gets too hot.
