Re: Damage?

Mark

I am hopeful that things are still okay.? First, check to see how raduino is plugged into main board - that you did not seat it to the left or right (with every pin in the wrong spot).?

Its also easy to get the cables to external I/O backwards.?

Yes to begin with, need 4.7k pull-up for all modes.? It supports only straight key CW - and menu setting must be set for this (!).? Two more resistors (of specific value) are needed to directly accept a paddle.?

As for stuck in transmit - likely you are activating the CW pull-up input somehow.? Of course check your wiring including orientation of each cable - and that raduino is mated properly.? Also that you don't have a solder splash causing CW transmit - I did that myself when assembling the little board from amateurradiokits.in.?

Re: New uBITX Ver. 6 Assembled Today

Also, on my Chrome instance on my laptop, I had to give permission to the web page to access my microphone.? Once that was done, then the spectrum widget showed up on the page.

If you've blocked all access to your microphone in the Chrome settings (which can be set to 'allow all', 'ask me' or 'block all'), then you may or may not get a prompt to allow, depending on how you set things up on your browser.

Also, AF, there is nothing on the "assembling the kit" page or the following operating page that tells:

1) Which of the front panel jacks are the mic, phones, and CW jacks (might be obvious to the designer) and they are not labeled on the cabinet, either.? Guessing is probably not a good idea, since the mic jack has voltage on it.? Can a mono plug be plugged into the phones jack, or will that short out one channel and possible blow something?? You can bet someone will try.

2) How to get into the setup menu?? By experiment, I found that by holding the encoder button down and cycling the power, I got into a set of menus to calibrate the screen, followed by 'use 10 MHz to set the LO' (took some head scratching but I was finally able to use 10 MHz WWV to zerobeat) and finally the BFO adjustment.? I've yet to find anything on the "assembling" or "operating" pages to help folks calibrate their V6.

Finally, I couldn't find the BFO alignment page from any of the other pages on the web site.? It seems it is 'hidden'.? The only way I was aware of it was because you posted it on this mailing list.

And oh yeah.? In spite of claims made that all boards are test and calibrated, I've yet to receive one board (V3, V5, or V6) that was calibrated when I received it.? ?Am I just that unlucky, or is this a common issue?

Thanks, and 73,

When I connect to the web page provided on my computer (Windows 10) without a microphone, I get just the instructions.? When I connect to the same page on my laptop, also Windows10, with a mic, I get the graphics showing the current audio spectrum.? See the screen shot in pdf format attached.

I would suggest you verify that you have a source of audio that the page can access.

Re: Manual for v5 #v5

The manual can be found at the group page. There is also one in the archives for .
The kit is basic, true, but look what you will pay for an Elecraft kit, or any other kit - MANY TIMES more.
You are getting a kit that will make a working QRP radio that you can use to talk to people all over the world.

Think - if a printed manual were shipped with it, or a CD, it would cost more. The maker has pared things down so that any Ham of any income level can have an all band radio that can be added onto and eventually collect a full featured station without having to shell out thousands just to get on the air.

Nextion Display issues

Hi I don't know if this is the correct place for this issue, but I figured someone on here may have come across something similar, the file for the 3.5" Nextion display in the?UBITX_Nextion_GUI_V3.zip file results what looks like a mismatch of resolutions here, can anyone give me any hints please? I'm baffled.

?

Re: uBITX V6 Headphone Jack not Working Correctly

I have the same issue.?

Re: New adapter kit from TSW #radiuno #ubitx

Hey Jim, I see that the current TSW firmware available for the T4 is essentially the "stock" uBITX firmware.? Is there a plan to port any additional code (primarily, display code) from the Biteensio effort?? I'm very much interested in trying out the T4, but I'm using an I2C display.?

Also, could you point me toward the negative reviews regarding Teensy 4 and the audio adaptor?? I'm looking to get some more specifics on that, understand if it's a design vs. production issue with the shield, etc.? Do you know if that was specifically for the Rev D audio board, or for Rev C's being used in a workaround with the T4?

(Also, regarding the upside down mounting, I'd think that wouldn't be an issue, if the T4 and audio shield are both purchased w/o headers, and then I solder on the appropriate headers??? But I still haven't looked at the respective pinouts...

Thanks,
Rob - KC4UPR

Damage?

I have the ubitx V5 with the Nextion case. It came with a front panel board for three 3.5 mm jacks and connection to the Analog and Digital 8-pin connectors. I did all that and all was well. However, there were problems with CW keying and I had read that some resistors were needed in order to use a paddle, in addition to the pull-up one. There was also another version of the front panel board included, with provision for these resistors as well as the 4.7K pull-up.
I wired that board up, but inadvertently reversed the position of the two 8-pin headers. Analog was still analog, etc, but the connectors were end-for end.
When I fired up the rig, it was stuck in CW transmit, even though the pull-up resistor was present. I saw my mistake and replaced the board with my original one. However, the rig still is stuck in CW transmit. I assume I have now done more serious damage to the rig through my clumsy handling of the digital/analog connectors.

Any thoughts?

Re: V6 mic connector - compatibility

If it's wired the same way as the V5 with the 'official' cabinet, my Elecraft KX2 microphone worked just peachy on my V3 (which I upgraded to a V5 by just swapping the main board and Raduino).

I would expect it to work on my V6, but I haven't tried it yet.? The up/down buttons on the top of the Elecraft mic, though, don't do anything useful (I wouldn't expect them to).

But it sure made a swell mic for the V3/V5, better than trying to homebrew something with the mic element, etc., that came in the kit.

It is wired with a 3.5 mm audio jack. The tip is mic, the ring is ptt and the sleeve is ground. It was kept this way so you can use regular audio cables to the computer.

Properly wired it it is compatible with any rig that supports an electret type microphone.?
These have an internal FET that needs a small voltage and possibly a DC isolating
capacitor (capacitor need depends on circuit layout).?

If one wants to use a standard Icom, Yaseu, etc. microphone with a uBITX? then you
need to know the circuit layout of that unit and adapt your microphone to that layout.?

Dynamic or crystal microphones may not provide sufficient signal output to drive an
input that is designed for an electret microphone.? Dynamic microphones may also
require an isolating capacitor to block DC? from the microphone and a resistor to
adjust microphone DC bias to what it would be if an electret microphone were used.?

I have successfully installed the AGC on my V6 board as well, works fine. What is the 10 ohm resistor for? I didn't use one and mine is working fine.

ND6T's AGC and Nextion display issues

OK, I built up a uBITX version 5 recently and I have it tweaked up to my satisfaction.? I added ND6T's AGC board and I'm having issues getting it to read out on the display.
I've used uBITX Memory Manager to set the "S meter" to various levels.? I have S meter checked.? I can watch with my scope to see the AGC board function properly, with DC voltage changes on A7 (pin1) on the Raduino.? Nothing, nadda.? I've tried loading the two Nextion programs (Nextion and Nextion_s) to no avail. Nothing.?
Tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
Jim
