Re: NEED HELP

Hello

Which HMI file.

There are only two files.
The correct firmware for the Nextion display whihc it seems you have
already loaded.
Then the correct firmware for the Ubitx.
That's it.
No reason for you to to be in the Nextion Editor at all.

I can do a video for you to help you but wont be until tomorrow
Regards
Laurence

Remove the SD card,
Ensure the Ubitx has the Nextion firmware and then its should work.
Was this working before on the original LCD that can with the Ubitx

The V5 has newer firmware

At this point I would get another SD card. It is the cheaper of the two devices to swap out.

interesting stories there about ancient and modern coexisting.? here in US our feds got wild idea to put too many jobs in its vicinity.? no matter how much roadbuilding gets done, it isn't enough.?

the ubitx is much more about the journey then the destination.? that a well performing rig can be mass produced with so little is nice.? mine hears just as well as my K2 in light to moderate traffic.? any of its versions can make a nice radio.? only real weakness is no one is yet kitting for sale the stuff to fix the spurious.? our club here is assembling now more than 23 units.? we kitted a simple relay board to add isolation at the LPF network - 4 out of 4 so far (mine included) are successful.? no clear cure yet on improving 45 MHz IF related mixing spurs - the crystal filter solution disrupted 40m CW, the simple LC filter in v5 isn't enough in my rig.? remember its the journey!? my rig is working nicely now on all the lower bands.?

Re: K5AID smoke test successful

Dave,

The uBitx is good for what it is, a working starting point with which to experiment.
Some bands and modes may not meet regs so not a good idea to add a linear amp for high power.
Comes mostly assembled, firmware and hardware are all easily hacked.
If you want an appliance that just works, figure five times the price.

> .I think i may place an advert for a version 3 and see what transpires.
Not sure why.? The v5 is apparently better than the v3 and v4.
The audio amp on v4 was less than ideal, but is easily replaced with the v5's LM386 for around $1US.?
? ??

Not yet available, but the QRP-Labs QSX SSB/CW/Digital HF transceiver looks promising.?
Will require much more assembly, firmware is not open source, not so easily hacked.
This will not be an easy kit for the first time builder.
But has lots of additional features.
The older QCX single-band CW rig from QRP-Labs has been very well received.

We keep our Concretehenge in much better repair, and our skeletons are older:? ? ;-)

Stick with it.? I'm sure you will get it.? I very strongly suggest you get everything working with the stock firmware.? Why give yourself another variable to deal with???

Re: LDG Z-817 autotuner

Hi?

I use the LDG Z11Pro with my ubitx.? It lives in the garden shed where the long wire antenna terminates and fed by coax under the lawn. It is powered by 8 Duracell AA batteries inside its case that lasts for about a year. Each setting is memorised for quick switching between bands.

Works a treat

Hello
Any LDG that auto tunes remotely will work.
I had the older version in a sealed waterproof case that would autotune.
Just needed 13v so I had to run that with the coax.

They have this model now, but it 200+ dollars.

Re: Shaking my head in disbelief....

CEC is a must.. You will love it, even on the stock LCD.

As for the weird problems, they are almost certainly Physical. In my build, i found the connectors were not robust, nor were the interconnecting wires used with them. I ended up soldering direct from point to point instead of using the plugs, as they lost their grip after being plugged & unplugged a few times. I reckon if You were to assemble the radio once or twice You would be fine, but any amount of regular tinkering will take it's toll on the integrity of Your inter-connections. The thing is, as i'm sure most uBitx heads will testify to - You will be all over and in & out of the build regularly, and wear & tear is to be expected.

You need to EXPECT the budget interconnects and moving parts to fail.

Hello Curt,
?????????????? Stonehenge is 4,500 years old and the discussion why it was built and where did the stones comes from is still open for debate. Its created alot of controvasy regarding the main road that runs 400 yards away, they have been discussing a bypass for oer 40 years now prices for this started off at ?1.5 million last year this has gone up to ?33 billion and still nothings progressed any further and the road past the monument vehicles are nose to tail most days. The summer will soon be with us and then traffis tail backs will be up to 8 miles...I had to drive past it to get to work 4 days a week for 38 years !!!!.. They recently built some houses 3 miles west of stonehenge and whilst digging the foundations for the houses found a skeleton when the acheologists dug him out he had flint arrow heads a knife and remnants of a bow.and boots, dna tests showed he originated from the swiss alps. His skeleton and finds are now situated in Sadlisbury museum.Anyway you can google all information.

I have no clue what might be lurking there in that ancient structure -- okay never mind its just rock!?

I certainly recommend the uBITX as a cool radio curiosity.? I myself have a v4, I can't vouch for the degree of improvement (particularly in spurious) for the v5.? We honestly need more data, but here versus the US regulations a typical ubitx will be compliant on a few bands, marginally compliant on a few - and likely as much as 10 dB or more out of compliance.?

As the community obtains and compiles data, hopefully reliable recipes will emerge.? My v4 is now fully compliant on the lower bands using an added relay board, but it is not yet compliant on the higher bands.?

My rig also has a mod to reduce the sidetone level.?

I use my ubitx with an external audio filter for CW, and I have an AGC circuit installed.? That's all.?

Re: WSPR Empty Data

The count is to indicate how many different location options you are providing. If just HOME, for example, the count is 1 and you just fill in one field. If you want 4 different location options you fill in all 4 lines in MM and the count would be 4.

Re: Shaking my head in disbelief....

Your symptoms looks like the yellow wire to encoder switch is exchanged for A or B of encoder.

There could be a short on the PCB and that might be worth checking with a meter and magnifier.

If you can send a pic of the solder side of that board.

Sounds like you soldered the push button wire (red?) to the 3 contacts of the encoder.

In an effort to comply with good engineering practices I've decided to twist and shorten my wires, trying to route them efficiently. I made the wires to encoder as short as possible, and twisted them. Well in doing that I must have been careless; I verified my connections but something's wrong. The encoder is not working as it should as I rotate it will hop into a menu, almost as if I had pushed it. I can salvage another from my other projects and try to fix it. The other two things are initially I had very low audio and by poking around the wires from the volume it went from low to very loud. I verified my connections and resoldered volume wires again, but same result. It seems that the entire radio might be in need of shielding or maybe snap on ferrite beads. Going to look around YouTube and try CEC fw for the stock lcd. Anyone have any other ideas? Any suggestions are appreciated

Re: WSPR Empty Data

hi

i had the same error
i changed the COUNT to 1 - in the absence of any real documentation I assume that this is a flag for the active message
i.e. you set 2 for message 2 etc

Well thank you both Curt and Gordon.? I agree it's a process. I firmly believe it is more about using good engineering practices than anything else.? I have another harness to prepare for the encoder, and will wire it directly to the encoder.? I also have another 10k pot for the volume; part wise I'm ok.?

Question,? would switching to CEC firmware (lcd 16x2 parallel) be of any use over stock firmware,? I am also familiar with python, arduino...

Do verify its not a intermittent connection between things, as the raduino needs to he firmly mounted. I remember similar issues. Take a break and he patient.? some of jy own stumbles along the way are documented somewhere here. I have learned to trust the materials and design, it may be a simple assembly detail needing refinement.
