? ?? He's an equal opportunity collector. I saw my long lost piece-o-crap Hallicrafters S120 in there, about 10 down from Jack's photo, top left. Also the ARC-5 receiver I used while in college. This is too many radios... Inline image Jack W8TEE Now, that is worthy of a feature article in QST. I have to wonder how you find the time to spread around the operating table/s for keeping those radios in shape... The Radio Museum in Huntington, WV would love to have a pic of your station to post on one of their walls. Re: BitX40 low power output

The audio chain is just the mike pre-amp at Q12.

A good start would be to check for the DC voltages that Randy gave us. Key the mike, but no need for audio into the mike. Next step is to do Allard's mods (either version), and see if you get full power as a CW transmitter. If it works for CW, then (on the Bitx40) it all comes back to trouble around the mike and Q12. If you can figure out a way to feed 50mv of 1khz audio into the mike amp, maybe try that. But mostly just inspect those parts for bad solder joins, bad wiring to the mike, bad mike, perhaps probe around as much as you can with an ohmmeter to verify that things are still soldered together ok. I still only see 3V peak across the load which is very low (should be like 20V or more I think). |

the board design that Kees did. My way of encouraging somebody else to take up producing the kits. Here's the two threads relating to those kits. ? ??/g/BITX20/topic/18098324 ? ??/g/BITX20/topic/22435274 Don, ND6T, came up with the circuit designs and built his by hand. Kees, K5BCQ, did a board design, fabbed it, bought parts on reels, and sent out nearly 1000 kits of each. For a one-off, could fab the board using those gerbers from Kees. But I'd probably just solder parts ugly style to a scrap of PC board, or perhaps directly to the ground plane on the back of the Bitx40 or uBitx,? All those parts are available in a through-hole version, if that's what you want. The surface mount parts that Kees used are extremely small. Could move up from 0805 to 1206 surface mount resistors and caps if not using Kees' gerbers. Resistors and caps don't need special parts, 20% tolerance is fine. I'd go for caps rated for 25 volts or more, though less should be sufficient. Thanks for the reminder. I will try to get some operating time in for that. Most of my time will be taken by another long, old tradition - taking my lady out to a new years eve supper, party, dance. There will be some 'recovery time' involved. I want try my PFR-3 on the air. If I throw a couple of switches I can also use the uBitx:) Happy New Year and 73, Bill KU8H On 12/28/18 9:24 AM, Michael Walker wrote:

Straight Key Night
Michael Walker
As a thought, if you own one of these you should get on the air on Monday night with your Ubitx for Straight Key Night.? It is a long old ham radio tradition. Objective:?This 24-hour event is not a contest; rather it is a day dedicated to celebrating our CW heritage. Participants are encouraged to get on the air and simply make enjoyable, conversational CW QSOs. The use of straight keys or bugs to send CW is preferred. There are no points scored and all who participate are winners. Mike va3mw |

There is no need any more to restrict sales to the 48 CONtigious United States via USPS. The priority and flat rate shipping is good for ALL states and any US territories. That includes the states if Hawaii and Alaska as well as places like Guam (US Territory). Any places that as a USPS post office address (including APO and FPO addresses). You might say something like "USPS postal addresses only". Saying "CONUS only" limits your sale opportunities without any "safety" benefit to you. I have sent parts to US personnel on Guam way out there over the Pacific Ocean in USPS Priority Mail Flat-Rate box with *NO* issues. It's 2018 - almost 2019. Not 1948. I don't want to sell or send to non US locations either. Happy New Year and 73, Bill KU8H On 12/28/18 8:46 AM, Jim Reagan wrote:
