Re: stl for dlwattmeter
A few years back I did a dummy load in much the same fashion Jack did, but using ten pieces, 510 ohm, 2 W resistors. Used flat copper flashing strips instead of wired to mount the resistors. Intended for QRP.
I used a 1/2 pint paint can from Ace Hardware. Poured the paint into an olive jar for later use and cleaned out the can. Named it "Cantennino" - little cantenna ?? - as homage to Heathkit For 10W and under, there was no need to use the oil fill. Jack's detector and Arduino system should work just as nicely on the smaller load. N5IB |
Re: Fun with Pennsylvania QSO Party AA2MZ/QRP
I have been a QRP OP since my Novice License. I don't call out QRP. What difference does it make? If another station hears you and begins conversation that is all that matters. when we exchange information name, QTH, how long been a ham, Rig and Antenna and power used to transmit is when I announce that I am QRP. If you make contact it makes no difference whether you transmit QRO or QRP. In my Opinion. Re: Front Panel for Nov, 2018 QST Dummy Load
Jack,
I haven't built your dummy load but figured I would take a shot at recreating the panel to help out those that need it. A few more dimensions would be very helpful.
This is normally where I would go on a very long rant about imperial units but I'll skip it :) The picture is about as far as my skills take it without the other dimensions.? As I have stated many times I am far from a skilled designer so if anyone is following this that actually knows what they are doing I will happily send what I have so far and of course plan on sharing the final file if I get that far. -- |
Front Panel for Nov, 2018 QST Dummy Load
Jack Purdum
All:
A number of you have written for the 3D printing file for the dummy load that is featured in the Nov issue of QST. Al designed it and it was not sent to QST, but should have been. Al had a system crash last week and cannot find the STL file for the case...yet. He's pretty sure he has it backed up, but has not found it. In the interim, for those who have some 3D design talent, this might help: A -- panel width 3" B -- panel height 2.5" C -- distance between vertical support for 9V battery, between lip and support? 5/8" D -- recess for OLED display: 1 3/16" E -- distance between bottom of OLED opening and recess edge 3/8" F -- opening for OLED display 15/16 x 5/8" G -- recess width 1 1/8" H -- outter panel edge to recess? edge 1" ?I -- switch opening approx 5/16" from left edge, 1 3/16" from top edge (depends on switch used) We will post the file when we find it. If anyone does create a new file, please share it here with everyone else and send us a copy. We will post it on our site (hamradiodesigns.com) if we can locate the original. Jack, W8TEE |
Re: Harmonics and Relay Replacement
Received the AXICOM?V23105-A5403-A201 relays from mouser this morning and tested them. The results were NOT as expected (not low enough). Dissected one to make sure it had the AXICOM internal structure .....it does.
What would you consider the proper way of testing the relay for coupling ? I connected the two relay N/C contacts (which are also connected to the relay armature) ....one side to the TG and one side to the SA with/without a 50 ohm resistor across the TG output at the relay. Also attached a small wire from Ground to Ground. Then I added 47nF caps to ground at the coil leads to see the effect. The AXICOM relay had a 4dB reduction, the uBITX relay had a 9dB reduction indicating to me more had signal coupled to that coil.? 73 Kees K5BCQ |

It's a quart paint can that I bought at Lowes. I bought the mineral oil at Walgreens, but I'm sure any drug store would carry it. As far as I know, the type of mineral oil doesn't matter. I simply bought the cheapest I could find. Jack, W8TEE

I would like to ask the size of the can (I assume it is a quart), the brand of mineral oil you used, and sources for both. I did not see that information in the article/webpage. I haven't had any dealings with mineral oil and would appreciate knowing of some good for 100 Watts of RF. I agree, build-it projects are good! When does it cost shipping to Italy?

Very true in theory but I cannot recall seeing this done for bicolour leds, possibly because most circuitry with less are on a 5 v rail.I will use two resistors as you can vary their value to suit the differences in brightness between red and green.? Cheers.

Saving one resistor you will need two diodes in series with both RX and TX line to prevent the
voltage at the common point to go back through the LEDs from RX to TX power lines and vice-versa. The Voltage across the dropping resistor will be 9-10V. I looked a random LED spec sheet and it had reverse voltage of 5V.. Re: Something not right 24V PA BITX40
You mic output might be bad. I had this occur on my bitx40. Over the course of a couple weeks I was not getting more than a watt out.?
You didn't mention the power out when driven by the computer.? On my ubitx, made a 317 powered regulator and run the rig from a 20v old laptop power supply Warms the clouds to the tune of 20 watts on one swr meter and 30 watts on my older power meter.? The case on my bitx40 is too small to add in a similar power supply.? |

Or, one can connect the anodes direct to RX/TX lines and use a single resistor from cathode to GND. -- Ion VA3NOI |

开云体育This works perfectly as a rx/tx indicator using a bi-colour (red/green) led. In the uBITX case, the led is for me too bright so I have increased the value of the ?series resistors to suit. This is what I would do...??? At least for the uBITX,
Don't have the schematic for the '40.
Maybe similar? The T/R relay is at the lower left of the uBITX schematic. 680 ohms will yield ~17 ma for the LED,? 1000 ohms for ~12 ma.?? ...etc. LED addition in red. On 10/17/2018 0:06, Andy Sagoya via Groups.Io wrote: Hello, |
