Re: Display garbled uBitX
John It seems that everything is working except the LCD display...?? If that is the case then I would look for a bad solder connection in the 4 data leads that connect the LCD to the Raduino board. A bad connection could easily garble the data going to the LCD.? Arv K7HKL _._ On Sun, Jun 17, 2018 at 7:57 PM John <jjczon@...> wrote:

Re: Homebrew from scratch

Soldering the si5351 would be the main challenge. Your best bet would be to buy the qrp labs' si5351 synth kit and solder it as a daughter board onto the main rf board. A small perf board can take the arduino, lcd display to the front panel.? What I did for the original hombrew was similar to that.? - f On Mon, 18 Jun 2018, 02:26 Woolf Brebner, <woolfoftheworld@...> wrote: I'd like to build a uBitx completely from scratch. I've been looking at the circuit diagram and I cant figure out how to wire up the raduino. How would one make a raduino from scratch and wire it to a uBitx? I'd preferably like to be able to build it on a proto board. Would it be doable for someone with pretty good experience in wiring pcbs and proto-boards to build a uBitx from scratch on a proto board. If not does anyone have pcb designs for the uBitx and the raduino. And does anyone have a list of everything I would need to purchase to build a uBitx. I don't want to ask to much but if anyone has built a uBitx from scratch and has files and such that would be great. Thanks a lot, in advance. |
Re: Display garbled uBitX
Yes think so too, just hooked the antenna and a speaker up and I hear FT8 coming in on 20m so the uBitX itself is working. Unfortunate I already had a blue backlight ordered but didn't pay attention,? it has 14 pins on the left side and 2 on the right. |

I have also seen people put ?a few ferrite beads on the power leads to the fan to kill noise creeping back into the supply.?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSorry to hear your miss fortune with the BITX transceivers but if it could help you feel better I¡¯m sure there is someone local that would be willing to help you get those units repaired. You could also talk to your postmaster about your miss fortune. Display garbled uBitX
I didn't use my uBitX for a while and today when I hooked it up my display was garbled. I was afraid that my seperation cable might be the problem, but even with the display directly connected to the raduino gives the same result. When I turn the tune button or push it I see things changing on the display so it looks like the raduino is functioning, Any ideas how to move forward?

I would venture a guess that his parcels arrived as they did as he probably rubbed his pleasant attitude on his mail delivery person and has since garnered himself a target for the blatant relief of his postal carriers frustrations.

Yes, I DO believe in karma and am usually pretty tickled when I hear someone of his "caliber" beat their gums....and yet fail to understand why they get what they get. As for most of us, we knew what we were getting as we did our homework before placing our order. And he, as competent as he claims, ordered multiples....of such an inferior device. One would think he could look at the schematic and surmise it totally lacking. I would agree with others....let us all see your design with all its capabilities and at the same price.....I'll order multiples myself....to my address tho, as my postal carrier is quite a nice chap and takes special care of my deliveries. 73 1/2 (little extra hug for ya) KD9BPY

Re: ubitx raduino issue/AKA the radio doesn't receive
John,
once again, your software saved me tons of time in troubleshooting. It turns out I have a bad 5351 on the Raduino now.. looking for possibilities of replacing it either as a chip or completely as a unit. Thanks again.. -- 72 and God bless KD4EPG |
Re: Help with AGC kit wiring
I built that kit yesterday and it went fine without trouble. It's compact with small parts but not that many pieces to deal with. If someone has drilled a hole, soldered and cut the traces I'd love to see a photo of that with and without the board in place. Thanks for your great contribution Don- Kees too.

Well guys...this was better tonight. ?Made one contact WI1B 5x4 about 2310hrs. Only station loud enough to work. Only hearing partial calls from my /mm station. Might give a 40m hamstick a try next wknd. Just have to find the right combo on the water. ?Will try to be on wed night sm time and channel.?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI just heard Tom, VE3THR marine 4, he
heard me but didn't copy and then disappeared. Called CQ a few
times, didn't hear anyone else.

Re: Remote cooling fan indicator

This quite common. To eliminate the problem make sure you have a hash filter. Typically a 1000mfd capacitor or higher with a small resistor ( 2-10 ohm) in series, followed by another similar capacitor .. Basically a pi filter with a series resistor in the middle. ?I use them on my rigs to kill noise, especially fan noise. After I installed it and dialed in the temps I fired up WSJT-X to see if there was any performance changes with the fan on, well, lo and behold I discovered that I have a "remote digital fan on indicator" on all bands so I'm assuming it's getting in via the audio circuit not RF side.? It also turns off when the fan does.? Perfect, I think I'll leave it. |
