I've made dozens of FT8 contacts with a scratch built ubitx(V3) using the 510's, typically 10W PEP,? minimal heatsink, no fan, no?enclosure?. . . . the 510's?are actually quite rugged, stable, and predictable. It's part of what makes it a fun build - they're cheap to replace when you drive them into oscillation and then *poof* ! |

OK, I thought about this can of worms I opened on the ride home. Given the stores are 60 miles from the mountain top home I am staying at this summer I had roughly 45 minutes to sort through the various responses. First, we should agree that the metric that establishes the accuracy one is aiming for is wave? lenght. Wave length of course is the distance propagated in one complete cycle. So Jerry is correct in that if your aim is to set an oscillator at a set frequency then being off by as much as 300 hz when using? a 30 MHz signal as a reference is equivalent to being off by 10 hz when using a 1 Mhz signal as a? reference. This is due to 10 cycles at 1Mhz and 300 cycles at 30 Mhz, when viewed as occupying distance, are equal in lenght. If I have bad hearing it is normally at the low or high end of the spectrum and what Jerry pointed out shows that I can still obtain the accuracy of someone with better hearing by using a higher frequency for a reference signal and if our hearing is equivalent then I simply obtain higher accuracy by using the higher frequency reference signal. As the other gentleman pointed out being able to have accuracy that resolves to perfection is most likely not even possible because of capacitor issues that end up blocking or at least attenuating the lowest of the lows in terms of audio signals. However, I do disagree with defining theoretical so as to indicate other than actual conditions for while the theoretical and actual may not coincide there are times that they do. I'm wondering if a multimeter on the (non-decoupled) audio might show it better. Measure AC, then DC. AC will register level down to say 10, maybe 5Hz, and DC (particularly analog-needle) will show variation by swing down to 0.1Hz? (10 seconds per swing). |

I like as mine came from the factory. Indeed it has no basses. Also the tx audio sounds the same. In my unit frequencies below 700hz are cut down. Above 2.8khz are also cut. The filter seems to me quite effective. I could adjust the bfo to have more basses and less high. But I prefer like it is now also because the opposite sideband is really suppressed and the carrier attenuated. I see this as I always monitor my tx audio with an external sdr receiver. To learn about the software you may want to get one of the nano processors and a display, and maybe one of the rotary encoders.? They are not very expensive, only about 2 or 3 dollars shipped from China.? You can hook them together and play with the software and see how to load and modify it without things being hooked to the uBITX.?? They were updated and should be accurate.? The only issue you may have that you should take care of is the audio amp chip.? If it has the WX on it then I recommend replacing it with a socket, or just solder a 6-8 volt regulator in the +12v line on the bottom of the board.? The instructions for that are here:?/g/BITX20/message/44125?p=,,,20,0,0,0::Created,,regulator+WX,20,2,0,14340543 That worked well for me.? Don't worry about any firmware changes or calibration changes until you have assembled it and used it a bit.? Also, check out ubitx.net for news and information. Daniel, W2DLC |

OK, that makes sense. I am reading the comments between shopping stops. I really had not looked at it, initially, beyond superficially and was kind of just spitting out an intuitive thought.? I find the algebraic combination of distinct signals to be rather interesting. I remember doing a lot of similar work, long ago, while a grad student and partaking in a class related to partial differential equations although it was less about application and more about showing the validity of the tools. Incidentally if you should ever want to watch a Fourier Series take the shape of the function it constructs across a specified interval find a copy of the software called "Maple." Maple will allow you to take a finite summation from the infinite series and plot it in such a way that the result looks like a movie or animation of the birth of the targeted function. Do yourself a favor and get the stock radio working before you mod anything.? The stock firmware works well out of the box.? Once you are positive the stock rig functions normally you can go crazy.? If you have problems out of the gate it is going to be that much harder to troubleshoot if you have a non standard set up.

And a little 6" Pickett in a wood and glass shadow box on the wall with the sign and small mallet below it: ? In case of battery failure, break glass. Real story.? 1981 taking pilots check ride the D%^* aviation calc croaked (battery). Out come the circular slide rule calculator from the flight bag.? Reliable technology batteries not required.? Primary calc for flying is time/speed/distance/fuel. I still think of my truck fuel economy in terms of pounds per hour. Allison |

I will be starting to assemble my uBITX after the case is delivered on 6/1. ?I received the uBITX on 4/18 and have been waiting for the case to delivered from India. The board I received is marked N97014, 2/18, V3(c). ?I need to know what upgrades wil be best to install now. ?Please advise if there are any errors that need to be addressed at this time. ?I would like to know if anyone is using the CCI EB63A amp. ?Please let me know if the online assembly manual can be trusted to be correct. ?I also need advice about installing the firmware, not real up to speed on this.
