There were reports of these WX devices failing spontaneously, without any short circuiting.
The simplest explanation is that hfsignals ordered a batch of TDAs that are not capable of proper behaviour with a 12V supply.? One guess is that the WX TDA chips are intended for 3-5 V.? Maybe none of the normal market for the WX uses 12V anymore.? It does not help that no one can seem to find any datasheet for the exploding version of the TDA.
The fastest way to clear this up is for the hfsignals person who contracted for the WX TDAs to reach out to the seller and get clear definition of what exactly these parts are, and maybe publish a datasheet.
Then people could make an informed decision about what to do with theirs.? Some might decide replacing is the best, others might put a 7805 in line with it, some might try resistors or heatsinks or smaller capacitors.

You can make any pin work with an interrupt using the attachInterrupt() function. The Uno and Nano only have two external interrupt pins (2 and 3), but the rest can also be used for interrupts. External interrupts have their own interrupt vector where other pin interrupts must share a vector. The attachInterrupt() function hides the bit masking that has to take place to determine which pin triggered the interrupt. There's some overhead with pin interrupts that external interrupts don't have, but will go unnoticed if the encoder is being turned by a human rather than a motor. Google "Arduino attachInterrupt" and you should find some sample code you can try.

I'm trying to get the uBITX sketch working on an Arduino Uno R3, because it's what I have. The problem is that the rotary encoder is on A6 and A7, but the Uno doesn't have A6 and A7, only A0-A5. I'm trying to move the encoder to the digital pins, and I was able to get the encoder button working, but the encoder itself does not. Can anyone offer suggestions on making this work?

I have a Pi3 that runs Fldigi with no problems.? However RMS Express will not run on a Pi.? So I abandoned the Pi3 for a laptop.? My laptop, running Win 7 will run indefinitely on my solar system with the no RMI problems charger I built for charging the laptop.? Since I have solar setup for both my QTH and my Mobile I have a reliable portable solution for both situations. Plus I'm not real good at Linux programming and have been frustrated with three different books I purchased to learn the protocol.? It was hard just getting Flamp loaded and running due to my lack of knowledge in Raspbian or Linux.? So Windows is far easier to load up software and the frequent updates that come with Fldigi, Flmsg, and Flamp. -- 73, W9KJO Walter

Otherwiase one ear remai\ns silent to radio listening. iMHO? the whole issue cropped up as members tried to use mono plug that has grounded the ring connection, thus short curcuiting the coupled Audio, where by the Amplifier started burning. We can always have a small 10 ohm resitor on the battery line and decouple that to prvent buring , if it is beleived tobe due to 13.5, 13.8 or 15V poser supply. Sometimes I wonder whether really these chips are that bad they blast off into pieces. I had such experience wit5h TDA but did not feel it due to original design. I am sure that I did mishanle it accidentally shorting some pins. ?I would appreciate memnbers to recolle3ct the events just before the chip got fried. regards ?sarma ?vu3zmv

If you have the 16x2 LCD displaying the freq, etc., then you have the Raduino. The toroid is not required.

Received my first uBitX first week of Feb. (ordered 15 DEC) Was happy enough with it to go all-in and order 3 more on Feb 20th, to build out as portable/field radios, with Ras-Pi-3B running FLDigi on a 7" touch-screen in a "lunch box" size enclosure.?
I've already proposed the idea to my club that we do an "all BitX" Field Day this year - I'm presenting the uBitX I currently have at our activity meeting later this month...? we'll see if they like it as much as I do.
