Re: Low power, RV1 unresponsive

Chuck,

When you move the VR1 slightly does the gate voltage change ? It should vary from 0-5V

If it does and the current at PA power line does not change - then the IRF may be faulty.

Hi,

It appears that the design is for a dynamic mic as I didn't find any bias resistor 10O on the active track of the Lay file. Perhaps we may include one with PTT switching facility? preventing mic bias when PTT is OFF.? Please consider a mod .

Re: dirty multiband

Thoughts : on 40/80 BPF - 12 v relay triple pole . 40 M off ? - 80 M on . Relay adds extra capacitance in for 80 m across C2 / C4 / C6 about 600pf . I am not sure how much stray capacitance of the relay might contribute to the filter . mount the relay on a small perf board next to the BPF . Just an idea.?

And don't rock the supply chain for the rest of us guys by keep bringing it up ( 4 times ) . ?Just pay the difference it is less than $10 bucks and move on .

as an aside, at 14 dollars we spend 5 dollars just shipping it. nine dollars had to cover pcb, testing, arduino, display, si5351, other components. we didnt make the break at all. which is why we had to revise the price to 25 usd.

Okay, silly question, but I am not having a whole lot of luck finding plain old-fashioned 1/8"/3.5mm switched stereo jacks intended for chassis or panel mounting. All I can seem to find are PCB mounted ones. Anyone know where I can find them? I prefer the 3.5mm size because they are smaller in overall size.

Re: 80 M and Shortwave receive to BITX40v3 (Non digital vfo )

One issue with adapting the Bitx40 for use as a general coverage receiver is that the IF at 12mhz is sitting right in the middle of some interesting radio spectrum. ?We could get around this by making it a double conversion receiver. ?I'm thinking we replace the 40mhz BPF on the Bitx40 with a small pc board. ?The board has a 30 mhz low pass filter, a mixer, an RF amp, and a 45 mhz band pass filter. ?Should be able to use a spare channel from the Si5351 to drive the mixer. ?I'd expect this to work fine to receive from DC to 30 mhz.

That's been designed already using about $5 worth of parts, just borrow the front end from this: ???

I¡¯m very happy with my $59 transceiver. I was under the impression from the beginning that this was not a money maker for those involved in the distribution but rather an effort to give those of us that like to learn and experiment an inexpensive platform to work with. The radio is for the most part delivered as a complete working radio for $59. We have all had the opportunity to work together to come up with ideas to improve our radios. There are plenty of other suppliers offering the Bitx kit for $200. Maybe that would be a better route for those of you that are so disappointed. Thanks to everyone involved. I read every one of these posts and am learning more every day.

The noise seems to be a common problem. ? When will you have an 'official' modification to fix the problem and incorporate in production units?? ? Forcing your frustrated customers to live with the noise or try various types of filtering on their own, risking damage to their radios, is not very good product support. ?Not having an official fix will negatively impact the reputation of your product. ?I would not buy another and could not recommend to anyone else to buy one.

The bitx is essentially a direct conversion receiver with a crystal filter. that is, most of the gain is at audio frequencies. in fact, almost all of it is in the audio preamp. which is why you must treat it like a DC receiver when it comes to using a clean power supply

Re: dirty multiband

Two switches.

Note that the junction of C6 and C7 is floating for DC. ?So one bandpass filter has a 10k resistor to gnd, and one has a 10k resistor to 5v. ?The main board has a third 10k resistor to one of the Raduino digital input pins. ?Could go into a Raduino ADC input and distinguish between as many bands as you want, each having a different dc voltage across two resistors between 5v and gnd.

Of course, that's about the worst possible point to be injecting hash from the Raduino. ?Better take care with bypass caps and such. ?Might be better still to add an extra cap at the output LPF, and carry out this scheme over there.

I assume we're talking DPDT switches, you want to switch both ends of each filter. ?They do make 3PDT slide switches, so another option would be to use the third pole over at the LPF for the logic level into the Raduino.

Re: First hack at modifying Raduino code

Hi Larry,

At the time I modified the code I hadn't found the notes about the change needed to accommodate the newer '5351 code - it seems as though there is (or was) no obvious, single FAQ-type of document on the "hfsigs" site or in this group's archives (the Wiki is still empty!) so it took a lot of reading of past message just to put the various bits and pieces together before I got the sketch to compile properly.? Still, not too bad for 1-2 hours' work and scattered documentation!

About the 2nd line being "garbaged up", I never had that problem, at least when using? < Version 2 '5351 code:? One would think that the generic LCD functions would be reasonably robust - unless there's some sort of blocking going on in the background.

I've been fighting my 3D printer when trying to print an ABS box for the radio, so that - and a few other projects - must be done before I can get time to put the radio on the air:? Too many projects, too little time!
