Re: CW on zbitx
Yeah I think the new software update is an improvement but some of the keying is still rough around the edges. It definitely helped with the chugging sound. On Wed, Apr 2, 2025 at 9:40?AM Ron Carr via <rcarr=[email protected]> wrote:

Changes/suggestions zBitX
1) does or could the transmit frequency show on the FT8 waterfall , currently only a red/orange line shows at the receive frequency. Maybe I am missing a setting?
?
2) Also on FT8, make the second “Call” button (F6) show on the display, I would edit the macro for “CQ POTA”. ?Now I have to access the keyboard to get to F6, a three step process. I use CQ, Call and CQ POTA often. I would suggest that REPEAT button could be lost, making it accessible only when connected to a HDMI display.?
?
Maybe there is a file that I could edit to accomplish this, any suggestions would be welcomed.

Received my zbitx.
Just want to report I received my zbitx yesterday. ?It did have a crack in the side panel and there was something rattling inside. ?Took it apart the rtc battery was loose. ?Connected to my bench power supply at 8.5v and it booted fine. ?External monitor worked fine. ?Connected to the net time set just fine. ?I would not recommend this but I opened chromium and downloaded and installed nomachine. ?I figured it would freeze up due to lack of memory but went ok just a little slow. No machine remote is working fine. ?Listened to some ssb with it and opened fldigi for some decode went fine. ? Haven’t done any tx yet. ?Will test on a dummy load first. ?
?
Is there a file somewhere for the 3d case? ?I want to replace the broken side panel and probably change the color.

Re: Zbitx RPI SD-card image needed
you probably ran "sudo ./build sbitx" resulting in this problem. let us delete the sbitx file: sudo rm /home/pi/sbitx/sbitx and now, run? ./build sbitx On Wed, Apr 2, 2025 at 5:00?PM Tilman, SM0JZT via <sm0jzt=[email protected]> wrote:

We are trying to get some ex-hfsigs peeps who retired from work to?help us out. it would be good get the band back together. If that works out, we may not have to suspend sales. keeping fingers crossed... On Wed, Apr 2, 2025 at 4:30?PM Gordon Gibby KX4Z via <docvacuumtubes=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Zbitx RPI SD-card image needed
Here we go:
pi@sbitx:~ $ ls -l /home/pi/sbitx/sbitx* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root ? ? ? 0 Mar 31 04:40 /home/pi/sbitx/sbitx -rwxr-xr-x 1 pi ? pi ? 1002132 Mar 19 04:54 /home/pi/sbitx/sbitx1 -rw-r--r-- 1 pi ? pi ? ? 42536 Mar 19 04:54 /home/pi/sbitx/sbitx.c -rwxr-xr-x 1 pi ? pi ? ? 24576 Mar 19 04:54 /home/pi/sbitx/sbitx.db I extended the "ls -l" slightly to see some more.
As you can see the "sbitx" is root/root but also empty...? The other files are pi/pi... Does that ring a bell ?? ?

Re: Zbitx RPI SD-card image needed
Hello Sam,
?
The file is stored in a zip file.? Try extracting the image and creating a microSD card with the extracted file after you rename it to remove the extra .img at the end.
?
It should be "zBitx_image.img" without the quotes.
?
This image may not fit on some 32 GB microSD cards.? I use 64 GB cards to ensure that the image will fit.

I recommend that if you add a mouse, keyboard, or monitor, you restart the device, because the built-in SBC (single board computer) is simple and very stupid and will only recognize external hardware detected at startup.

Re: Can I Boot from USB
With sbitx, it is worth booting from an external USB 3 because there is a speed difference.
Here, the RPi4 also boots from the uSD card on the pcb, while the uSD has a speed of 30 MB/s, while the external USB 3 speed (depending on the quality of the stick) reaches a 10x increase.
I recommend replacing the internal uSD card because I think there is not that much gain with the external USB.

Re: New sBitx V3 to me
Congratulations on solving the problem and I wish you many nice DXs. If you don't like to solder, I recommend using a power supply with current limitation.
It's likely that the previous owner forgot to put the RPi screws back in. If I remember correctly, they are M2.4x 8 mm or something similar. I have a cooling fan, so I have an intermediate panel to hold it in place and for extra spacing I have M2.4x 10 mm screws.
