zBITX CW Keyer

Hello Ashhar
?
I've received my zBITX this morning and have been listening on the bands in different modes. So far all seems to work as expected and it is fun to use this little rig.
But I'm lost by trying to send CW with the built in keyer. I'm not used to Lambic A after using Lambic B for 40+ years. When set to Lambic B you get a straight key. Is Lambic B not yet implemented or have I set something wrong? If not, will this be included in a firmware update?
Taking an additional external electronic with Lambic B keying half the size of the zBITX for portable use was not my plan...
?
Many thanks for this otherwise nice rig and for any info

Re: zbitx hung-up on startup

I had a similar thing with the radio hung up after about 30 minutes of operation.? That was with FW 1.02.

After updating to 1.0.4 in RPI and frontpanel all runs nicely.?

Re: Zbitx external microphone recommendations

Hi there

I find it odd that the pinout of the microphone is different from all other radios having 3.5mm stereo connector.?

They "all" do have PTT to tip and ground and microphone to ring and ground. Means that I would need a adaptor to connect up my microphones? :-(

Ashhar, with a monitor, keyboard and mouse plugged in.? The zBitx screen image remains the same (no change during boot-up).? The monitor shows a normal startup with a window showing what may be an issue.? Rebooted the machine and the zBitx window did not change, however the monitor showed a normal reboot.? Unable to kill the zBitx program using the normal tools.??

Re: zBitx manual

Pierre,

The manual should be up on the site soon. We're working on revising it to make sure we document all the features on the zBitx.

Meanwhile, please have a look at from Farhan where he documents the functions of the radio.?

Re: Why? Why in bitx and ubitx is single balanced (2 diodes) mod/demod instead of double balanced??

It was just because, in a modulator, we didnt need to balance out the audio. The audio automatically gets filtered out by the crystal filter

What's the downside of running the zBitx from a slightly lower voltage?
I have a few LiFePO4 18650 flat tops I got from batteryspace.com. I prefer that chemistry for its lesser fire hazard. LiFePO4 cells only charge up to 3.65V, and run down to around 3.2V. So a pair would only provide somewhere between 6.4 to 7.3V.
Me too. So now I have to decide whether it’s better to use them in the simple battery holder, or use the alternative battery holder that I also got, that steps it up to 9V and has a USB-C charger. I guess with 9V I’d get a little more output power, and maybe have to worry about cooling a bit more? But it won’t cause any damage?

Re: SBITX v3 - Ability to use a Headset for phone modes

Don't stick to a headset with a famous brand name, they usually don't work for this purpose.
I decided to buy a good working headset that has worked well for others. It's true that its name doesn't appear in alsamixer, and all the switches and sliders work fine.
Thanks to JJ for that, which he wrote in message? ?. Yes, the important thing is that there should be no error messages.

Re: Power for zBitx

It will run all the way down to 5.5v, the output will be much lower, though

Re: uBITX Calibration

Glad the Settings Editor helped you!
?
My recommendation is to write down your calibration settings and reinstall CEC 1.2. My V2.0 (beta) was primarily targeted at supporting more modern MCU's (e.g. teensy, pico, etc.)As such, the size of the software increased slightly to achieve the goals of 32 bit and portability. Consequently, some "standard" options that are available under CEC 1.2 (primarily WSPR, but some other settings that you would normally get to in "console" mode too), were disabled on Nano's to fit the software. After re-installing 1.2, you can transfer the calibration settings if they do not come across.
?
There is no increase in functionality for 2.0 vs 1.2 for Nano users. ?That is the reason for my recommendation.

Re: Power for zBitx

Charu,
You can use the standard sbitx image and replace the sbitx sources with those from the zbitx repo. The git gurus can do this in a single line, I am told

Gwen,

I'm not sure if you have updated your zBitx to the latest software and firmware. To do a firmware update, you will need to follow the procedure mentioned by Farhan in this post. To update the software, you will need to connect the zBitx to an external display, keyboard and mouse, and use the terminal program to run "cd sbitx" (if you're not on the sBitx directory) followed by "./update" to update the software.?

Re: Zbitx external microphone recommendations

If you are looking for a solution thats POTA/SOTA friendly, you can try either one of these three options:

1. 3d print a portable microphone such as
2. Buy a cheap microphone (like cheap baofeng microphones) from amazon, snip the exisitng connector and solder a 3.5mm TRS stereo connector.
3. Go for a DIY solution such as the ones seen .?
?
The wiring is similar to the uBitx and sBitx radios. The PTT switch connects to ring and sleeve. The microphone connects to tip and sleeve.?
