Re: Homebrew SBITX with Hat
#homebrew

Hi Nick,
I buzzed out the pins to find where the ground pins were - and that showed me the orientation of the 10 pin connector.? I then plugged the hat into th Pi (power offf) and buzzed out the pins vs. the SBITX schematic to find orientation of the 20 pin connector. Then, so I wouldn't forget, I put a dot of white nail polish by each of the pin 1s!? ? I did the same with the +5 connector to make sure I had the polarity right.? Be careful powering th Pi through the 5V pins- put no more than 5.25 volts in or risk blowing up the Pi (ask how I know!) 73, Dean KK4DAS |

JJ: My sBITX gives me the following output in my terminal after inputting: pi@sbitx: ~ $ uname -a
Linux sbitx 6.6.20+rpt-rpi-v8 #1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 1:6.6.20-1+rpt1 (2024-03-07) ?aarch64 GNU/Linux? This doesn't match the screen output you have in message #111720 at the very end of your message.? Is there something I need to do to have my sBITX in sync with yours? I'm a? nobie with linux but I'm trying.? My unit does seem to function somehow. Thank you for all you have done for us all. You can only execute this command if you have previously installed the app as a git clone. I mean this:

Thanks, that's very helpful.? I have a pi hat and Pi Zero 2 W and have literally been trying to figure out which way is up and how to plug the Pi into the hat and make sure all the other pins exit in the right direction(s). I can see your stack at 0:54 and I guess it answers my questions.
Next I'll need to attempt to load sBITX software onto the Pi and learn how to modify it to initially work with an HDMI monitor and USB keyboard since I don't have the display used int he sBITX design.? My eventual goal would be to build something like the zBITX presented at FDIM. 73 Nick, WA5BDU |

Yes, you have to burn it to a new sd card, as the says.

Sorry of the newbie question. I know enough about Linux to be "dangerous" . With the new release can I do an in-place upgrade or do I need to burn a new SD card?

Re: FT8 Power Pou
Joe: If it's a new unit, you shouldn't need to be repairing it. My advice would be to contact the makers. This forum has a few similar reports of low output power, and I'm hearing of others. ?If there's a quality control issue in manufacture, I think they should know of it so it (and your radio) can be fixed. ? Hey Gang..
Because this release was being packaged up as I was still finishing a few things, There is 'minor' update waiting in the repo for the FreeDV_PTT application. One thing that will come along with this update is an upgrade.sh script that will make it easy to stay up to date with releases of this application.? For just this one time we will need to manually pull the updated .deb file and invoke the update. cd? ~\freedv_ptt git pull sudo dpkg -i freedv_ptt.deb ...and that should do it. You'll now see an update.sh file in the freedv_ptt folder. any future upgrades will be done with ./update.sh Easy peasy and thank you. de W2JON |

P.S.
For those of you running DE hardware, I've also included the 3.01 sound file in the download folder and a script to "downgrade" and recompile the sBitx app. To run this, open terminal and type: cd Downloads ./DE_sb_sound.sh |
Re: sBITX 64Bit Pi Image Available

I published a new, preconfigured, Raspberry Pi image for the sBitx this evening.
This is the production version, code name, "Field Day". ? sBitx 64 Bit Production Version 1 - Code Name "Field Day" This is the production release of the sBitx 64 bit Raspberry Pi Image that is preconfigured with popular ham radio software including sBITX Toolbox, FreeDV PTT, and the sBitx app.? What's New Updated to the latest kernel (6.6.31) including all security patches as of 6.9.2024 sBitx version 3.025 Hardware RTC enabled Version 2.06 version of sBITX Toolbox Version 2.45 of FreeDV PTT by W2JON GridTracker version 1.24.0512 WSJTX JTDX JS8Call XDX FLDigi and more.. Additional tweaks and behind the scenes enhancements installed to improve responsiveness I have been working with W2JON and included his application into the build as well. This is a robust version and includes his excellent product. As a reminder, the current 32 bit version shipped from HF Signals and GigaParts is running "Buster". This version is no longer supported as of June 30, 2024. See ? The 64 bit version in this build is "Bookworm" and runs fine on all Raspberry Pi 4 platforms with the sBitx software. Please see the instructions on the release page for details. ? The link to the Pi image is stored on my Google Drive in the link.txt file. ![]() ![]() Thanks, JJ |
