Re: An update to the sbitx software - v 3.02
You could try deleting any .wis wisdom files from the sbitx and sbitx/data directories, then re-starting sbitx. Don't forget that there will be an approx. 1 minute delay the first time you start sbitx while the best fft algorithms are determined and the wisdom files are created. Hi Steve. ?I will delete the wisdom files and perform more testing. I am using a stock, v3.0 image that came with my prebuilt sBitx. No other upgrades or updates have been installed. No other devices connected either via physical connection or virtual such as BT audio. I do have wifi enabled and VNC.. Thanks. JJ |

Re: An update to the sbitx software - v 3.02
Hi Joel;
Sorry that this caused you grief. There's a number of ways to address this in the future: ? 1) Have a "Release Notes" file that accompanies new major releases, ? 2) Update the wiki to state there will be a startup delay the first time sbitx is run, ? 3) Include wisdom files with the github distribution (it looks like Farhan has already done this - not sure why you had a delay) ? 4) Add a startup splash screen that asks the user to wait while the wisdom files are created. I really think option #4 would be cool - I was thinking of a cartoon showing the linux penguin leaning against a large toroid, which to me would be a cool sbitx logo. Alas I can't draw a straight line with a ruler - would love to hear other ideas about a graphic for a possible future splash screen. 73; Steve, N3SB |

Just what are these wisdom files?A bit of googling says "wisdom files contain saved information about how to optimally compute (Fourier) transforms of various sizes". Steve is saying to delete them so they get re-created by the sbitx application, and as he says they take a minute or so to generate. Without these files we can presume the FFT is computed non-optimally, to the extent that the results are near useless. ? -- Regards, Dave, N1AI |

Steve,
Just what are these wisdom files? I thought my link was broken on my desktop but that wasn't it at all, i needed to wait like you said for a minute. Why isn't this information included in the update info instead of letting us flounder in the dark. Joel N6ALT |

I've submitted a pull request to limit the minimum size of the sbitx window so that the waterfall size is never less than zero. Don't forget that there will be an approx. 1 minute delay the first time you start sbitx while the best fft algorithms are determined and the wisdom files are created. Can you think of anything that's different about your sbitx as far as the sound system is concerned? Have you installed any other software that might affect the sound system? Are you running any other programs in the background? Do you have any other sound devices connected? 73; Steve, N3SB |

Steve's note shows that the update script includes ./build sbitx so doing it again isn't needed. I would say having the update do a build is probably a good thing, given we seem to have a mix of 32-bit and 64-bit OS users these days and the copy of sbitx that is checked into github is built in 32-bit mode. The build will build in the proper mode, but as above, if you have a 64-bit OS you need to make sure ft8_lib is also built for 64-bit because the copy that is checked into github is built for 32-bit.? ? -- Regards, Dave, N1AI |
VU2ESE WSPR rx USA
I'm slightly embarrassed to say I was receiving on a Japanese built toaster oven at the time but it's still great after rx'ing WSPR for almost 8 years close to 24/7 on various rigs to finally catch a visit from our pal VU2ESE.? Antenna is a myantennas EFHW in an inverted L with the peak at about 50' oriented north to south so I don't get much from VU land.? Ashher what were you running?

It appears to me you are building on one of the 64-bit OS images that people have provided. The issue is that $HOME/sbitx/ft8_lib/libft8.a is compiled for 32-bit mode so it is in the 'wrong format'. Suggested commands: cd $HOME/sbitx/ft8_lib make make install cd .. ./build sbitx Ignore the error from "make install".? It is trying to write to a system folder but we probably don't want that, yet we do want it to make the archive $HOME/sbitx/ft8_lib so we do need to run the command. The usual disclaimers apply. ? -- Regards, Dave, N1AI |
Re: An update to the sbitx software - v 3.02
I fixed my update problem by issuing the following command:
git reset --hard git pull ./build sbitx Now I have the latest V3.02 and it works good, however the sbitx link on the desktop not longer works, i have to start the radio by going to the terminal and typing cd sbitx, then typing ./sbitx it will then start normally. I don't know how to create new symbolic links on the desktop. Joel N6ALT |
