Re: uBITX v6 case build and Speaker #v6 #ubitx

Aaron,
Please share a picture or two when you get it completed..it sounds like it's going to look really cool.

I'm working on a uBITX v6 basic kit that did not include a speaker. What would be a good-sounding and quality aftermarket speaker?
I'm building the case around the speaker and a 3.5" Nextion display so I will have a little bit of leeway on the size of the speaker.?
I have most of the wood in my shop, it is going to be red oak and purple heart and I want it to look a little retro art deco type with the gold speaker cloth and chicken head knobs. I may look a bit goofy with the old styling and a Nextion touchscreen but I will be the only one looking at it. I will work on it as my health allows.?
So any suggestions on a speaker?
Thanks

Re: #sbitx disk image for software v2.1 #sBitx

I had a lot of trouble using an SD to microSD adapter. Once I got a usb device with a microSD socket, it worked. I did use a 64gb card though.

Shirley,

Try burning to a 64 GB or larger card.? Most 32GB cards are just a little shy of the image size.? There are ways to make the standard image smaller; it has not been done to date.

Re: #sbitx disk image for software v2.1 #sBitx

Shirley,

I have read that there are ways to take an existing image and shrink it after it has been created.? That is done on a Linux OS, not a Windows.? I have not tried it.

I agree that it would be nice if Ashhar Farhan would save the image in a smaller size and store it as the "Official" image.

If someone is having trouble because they cannot copy the image to a 32GB SD card, because there is a few bits less space on the card. I recommend the following:

?

The solution may be to first copy the image to a larger, for example 64GB uSD card (use balenaEtcher prg).
You start the RPi with the 64 GB card, then copy it back to the 32 GB card with the SD Card Copier program.
To the card you couldn't copy to because there wasn't enough space. This is the simplest solution.
You don't need shrink, you don't need linux os. By the way, the sbitx_v2 image takes up about 9 GB of space.

?

Yes, I tried it and it works.

Re: #sbitx disk image for software v2.1 #sBitx

Has anybody out there managed to successfully burn this to an SD card? Most of mine complain that they don't have enough capacity; the one that doesn't gets an I/O error near the end. Maybe the original card would work but I don't want to burn the image to that one; I'd rather have the original available there as a backup.

Many have requested an sd card image as an alternative to upgrading the sbitx software.

Upgrading the software is the recommended way to go as it preserves the personal settings, logbook etc. Using a new image on the sd card is the equivalent of reformatting your hard drive. This? option is only for those who want to reset everything and start all over again.

Here goes:

The sbitx sd card image is available to download from:

1. Download by clicking it on the above link.
2. The image is zipped up to save download time, unzip it with your compression utility (on most operating systems, just trying to open it will automatically offer to unzip the file).
3. Follow the instructions to burn it to your sd card from:

4. You will need to calibrate the tx power again. Follow the instructions? on :

Does it sound like spike noise, like the synthesizer moving through frequency steps?? Capacitors across the encoder terminals wouldn't help that at all.? Or is it more like wideband noise??

If you can hear it, any chance you could make a recording of it available?

That sounds undesirable to me ... tuning is how you find stuff you wan to listen to.

Hi Joel,

The other potential noise source is the display.? Are you using the stock display with the stock software?? If not, would you please share your configuration?

Main Tuning Encoder Noise #sbitx_v2

I have been noticing Encoder noise while tuning around the bands, I can see it in the waterfall and hear it in the receiver while tuning. Has anybody else noticed this? I might try installing some .1mfd caps from the encoder legs to ground to see if it quiets things down, can't hurt.

Re: Disable WebUI

I added these lines to sbitx_gtk.c so that I can configure the startup to the web UI in my user_settings.ini

if (!strcmp(get_field("#web")->value, "OFF")) {
write_console(FONT_LOG, "Starting http://sbitx.local:8080\n");
open_url("http://127.0.0.1:8080");
}

Re: Disable WebUI

Farhan,

That makes sense.??

For basic radio operation, I can use the gtk screen.? When I want a digital operation, I can either open the Chrome interface on the gtk screen or use a remote computer to open a Chrome browser connected to the Sbitx.

On my DE V1 with V2 software, I find less noise caused by the Raspberry Pi when I log in from another computer for the digital functions.? I also have more hiss and pops when using the HDMI-connected screen.? The best operation is with the gtk on the 7" DSI screen and login from one of my computers on my network.

Try commenting the line out, and rebuild the sbitx software.? You must do this after every update, as the git pull will overwrite the change.
Hi Evan,

thanks for the hint. I commented this line?. Works great. I still can open the web interface if I want by pressing the 'web' button but I only use the web interface on a remote machine.

Re: Disable WebUI

Evan,
The old UI still works as it did. However, things like the logbook, ft8 sequencing, telnet, etc., are all working only in the webui.?

Re: Disable WebUI

The gtk is now behind the webui. For instance, much of the FT8 messaging is done in javascript on index.html. The logging is also functional only on the web UI.
