Re: Disable WebUI
Farhan,
That makes sense.?? For basic radio operation, I can use the gtk screen.? When I want a digital operation, I can either open the Chrome interface on the gtk screen or use a remote computer to open a Chrome browser connected to the Sbitx. On my DE V1 with V2 software, I find less noise caused by the Raspberry Pi when I log in from another computer for the digital functions.? I also have more hiss and pops when using the HDMI-connected screen.? The best operation is with the gtk on the 7" DSI screen and login from one of my computers on my network. 73 Evan AC9TU |

I believe that the "chrome" UI is opened on line 4190 of sbitx_gtk.cHi Evan, thanks for the hint. I commented this line?. Works great. I still can open the web interface if I want by pressing the 'web' button but I only use the web interface on a remote machine. |
Re: Disable WebUI
Evan, The old UI still works as it did. However, things like the logbook, ft8 sequencing, telnet, etc., are all working only in the webui.? - f On Fri, Jun 2, 2023, 9:17 AM Evan Hand <elhandjr@...> wrote: Farhan, |
Re: Disable WebUI
The gtk is now behind the webui. For instance, much of the FT8 messaging is done in javascript on index.html. The logging is also functional only on the web UI. - f On Fri, Jun 2, 2023, 6:10 AM Evan Hand <elhandjr@...> wrote: loopMasta, |
Do you have any favorites with any other radios you use?? For the bandwidth of the uBitx, you don't need anything very fancy but small differences of overall efficiency and how good the speaker's frequency response is in midrange make speakers sound very different when you A/B them.? One of my favorite voice quality speakers is a 4 inch from an old boom box I disassembled.? I bet the average 8 inch guitar speaker would be awesome in a ham radio and sometimes I plug in an 8 inch extension guitar speaker I have for fun.? My old Icom SP-3 external speaker has a basic driver in it from the early 80's of about 4 inches and really lets me hear HF better than the average speaker, but doesn't sound as good with VHF/UHF FM repeater type audio. My all time favorite for HF is an old RCA 40-5000 bookshelf speaker which has a tiny tweeter and a smallish 3 to 3.5 inch speaker.? It has just enough lows to be full without being boomy and just enough highs for clarity without sounding hissy.? If you found an old one of those and pulled the drivers out, that would be perfect.? I have compared this to Minimus 7 type speakers and those have a little too much frequency response in direct comparison. I have auditioned lots of various old Motorola metal and plastic extension speakers and they have great efficiency and good clarity, but don't have as nice of a sound quality as the little RCA. Anyway, if you could scrounge a little and experiment you might find some gem for your taste.? Efficiency is important since it is driven by a 386 amp and midrange qualities make all the difference in the world for HF audio quality.? I would avoid any of the really wide frequency response small speakers you might see at Parts Express or other places unless you want to use a bigger amp and then probably mess with EQ to get it just right.?? My uBitx V6 has the standard metal cabinet and I ended up swapping to a paper speaker from a Google Voice Cardboard kit.? The original foil dome supplied speaker would have sounded great for the uBix, but it had a defect that gave it a ringing overtone. The thrift shop is your friend sometimes for voice quality speakers! |
I'm working on a uBITX v6 basic kit that did not include a speaker. What would be a good-sounding and quality aftermarket speaker?
I'm building the case around the speaker and a 3.5" Nextion display so I will have a little bit of leeway on the size of the speaker.? I have most of the wood in my shop, it is going to be red oak and purple heart and I want it to look a little retro art deco type with the gold speaker cloth and chicken head knobs. I may look a bit goofy with the old styling and a Nextion touchscreen but I will be the only one looking at it. I will work on it as my health allows.? So any suggestions on a speaker? Re: sBitx Developer’s Edition (v1) — how to protect the RPi4?
f,
7805 or better yet the LM317 makes an ok audio amp in a pinch. The input signal modulates the control voltage. Personally I like the 555 timer amp,? true PWM. -- Allison ------------------ Please use the forum, offline and private will go to bit bucket. |

Pi2 display packages do not have the variety the pi4 does. Pi4 early versions vary too ?I had to use vga adpter and old pc monitor to use my first pi4 . Re: sBitx Developer’s Edition (v1) — how to protect the RPi4?
Gordon, last week I had a similar experience. The screen on my V2 was dark! Since I had a DE with its own working screen I was able to swap parts to held isolate the problem. It turned out to be a bad connection with the flat cable that connect the DSI connector to the video board for the 7 inch display. I have had trouble with those ribbon cables before. They are delicate and I have of course had to remove it several times. The original became very chewed up. I bought a bunch of replacements on eBay in various lengths. One apparently faulty one looked clean suggesting a possible problem with the connector. Now that would be very difficult yo repair. Be careful!

Hi Steve,
I found the clock speed, so I will try connecting directly to the board. Thank you! 73 Evan AC9TU |
Re: Board files for the ATTiny85

Hi Evan;
After you have selected the board type as ATTiny85 ( Micronucleus / DigiSpark ), additional options specific to that board type will appear in the Tools menu of the Arduino IDE (I'm using version 1.8.19), below where you selected the board type. You will see an option to select the clock speed. I'm providing the 3.3 Volts into the DigiSpark module at the output of the 5V regulator.? 3.3V, Ground, SCL, and SCA are available at the RTC module on the male pins. 73; Steve, N3SB |

Evan - the DigiSpark board will run fine at 3.3 Volts, in which case you do not need level shifters. I do recommend changing the clock setting to 8 MHz though. Still plenty fast enough for I2C communications.Steve, Can you point me to the documentation on how to set the clock speed?? It would also help to know how to bypass the 5 volt regulator on the board. I call it a DigiSpark board, as that was the first board that I could get the sample program to run.? I had to change to the?ATtiny85 (Micronucleus / DigiSpark) board to get the sketch from Ashhar Farhan to compile. Here is a picture of the two ATTiny85 boards that I have. 73 Evan AC9TU |
