¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDean, Do you have a link or pdf tutorial/instruction sheet outlining steps to do the procedure? Is it an external program running on a host PC/laptop and making the adjustments via the USB com port while the primary transceiver code is running?

Re: New uBITX Ver. 6 Assembled Today
I¡¯ve been testing my new v6 it seems to receive well I¡¯ve heard several stations. Unfortunately I don¡¯t have an HF SWR meter to test with. I now suspect I¡¯m not transmitting. I tried listening (using a WebSDR site) to my own transmission ?but I hear nothing. Anyone have any suggestions?

How do you connect "Memory Manager" to the bitx v5? I see no connections in the radio where I can connect to a computer or anything. W5ALX Alex Netherton On Wed, Jan 8, 2020 at 4:26 PM Dean Souleles <dsouleles@...> wrote: All? - --

Re: mbitx V5 versus V6
Hi Farham.
I have replaced the volume pot. i have tried to make good of the damaged case. everything is now working. But damaged paintwork could only be done by reopening the packing. As for the damaged case they must of played football with it. So pictures would be of use now. Philip G7JUR? |
Re: mbitx V5 versus V6
Thanks for hi-jacking my topic with a question for Farhan, which still is unanswered...
My topic was about the availability of mbitx V5, possible V5 not being available in the future, as was the bitx40. Underlying question is why the V6 (not the goal of Farhan, which should be a $100 allband transceiver) is priced that high, it is still a price-rise of 25% in comparision to the V5. And why is the goal, a $100 transceiver, abandoned? So Farhan, will the V5 still be available in the future at that price? And why is the goal, a $100 transceiver, abandoned? Thanks for your reply, Farhan. By the way, Thanks for your initiative to produce such a lovely small and good working transceiver! With regards, Martin (PD0ZZ) |

Same as me, but I've not built my V4 until now. So I use a Multus Proficio SDR for driving the transverters. Works as expected, used that setup during Marconi VHF contest, well done. The Proficio is an excellent QRP rig from 160m to 10m. On outdoor use I would prefer the uBitx. 73s, Jens/DH1AKY |

Hi Curt,

In some of the discussions about Hans' proprietary (not open source) system the man himself pointed out that any of us can develop our own software to drive the hardware. He says there is enough info about how the hardware works to do that. perhaps not as well as his proprietary software. That depends on what you want the radio to do. It will be an SDR with no need for a computer. I am NOT there. I would rather spin my wheels improving the uBitX but before I do that I have an older set of nice hardware in a GC receiver. The original control system is kaput and the bad parts are unobtanium. An ideal place to start fitting parts of various systems together to solve the problems. When that radio worked I really liked it. Maybe the Lone Ranger really can ride again. My V3 has the Q90 failure. I have the parts. I am on my first day after some repair surgery and I have a six week light duty chit (ask your Navy friends). I expect to button up a repair job for a QCX owner and then on to V3 Q90 repair. My own PFR3 needs a donut in the 20 meter low pass filter rewound (used the wrong number of turns last time). I use it as a two-bander meanwhile. I have the 10 Watt amp and filters for the QSX and waiting for that. Now I am contemplating a V6 as well. Nice display. All the old bugs fixed and new ones introduced. Ain't it great? And considering a QSX80 with 50 watt amp. Never mind about a non-working pair of Softrock radios I have bid on. My surgery restricts me to playing with toys weighing ten pounds or less. The lesser the better. QRP to the rescue! 73, Bill KU8H On 1/8/20 3:50 PM, Curt via Groups.Io wrote:

Setting the CW BFO calibration did the trick.? The CW BFO calibration had been set to 0? - when the CEC firmware starts up it sets to a default value that was about 40 KHz off of where my SSB VFO was. I made them the same - then adjusted to the CW BFO until I got a clean 700 Hz tone while keying another rig transmitting to a dummy load nearby.? I don't have a scope so I measured the CW tone with an audio analyzer app on my phone. All fine business now. Thanks all and 73. Dean KK4DAS |

Hi Reed -
Sent you a PM - didn't want to spam the thread for NanoVNA advice - but I'm helping with a talk on NanoVNA for our club and would like to understand the procedure for using NanoVNA to measure the SI5351 clock speeds.? I think it would be a great example in addition to demonstrating how to use it as an antenna analyzer / SWR check.? And many thanks for all the work you are doing on the firmware!? It looks awesome. 73, Dean KK4DAS |

I get it.? I also have a KD1JV field radio (PFR3).? I enjoy using my v4 uBITX - LCD and menu system.? Quite a hoot to make lots of QSOs on a rig that cost less than a typical microphone in many shacks.? Since you went this far - maybe at least play with it some!? It makes a nice WSPR receiver in the shack, or occasional foray from the 'appliance rigs.'? Yes the prior uBITX rigs were 'display agnostic' - start with LCD and upgrade to whatever display you want (the inside of the v6 can still do that FYI).? Oh yes - when the QSX finally comes out - take at look at that.? (But if you don't like its user I/O - you cannot change it, unlike the uBITX).? enjoy your radiations!? Curt |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks for the input Don, I was a volunteer license examiner a while back and a few of the
chaps that did self study (no organized formal courses) all came
through with pass marks of 90% or better which gave them full HF
privileges. They had all just contacted me out of the blue via email to write the exam; I put together a review package ,and made myself available as a sort of elmer, for them and put the review package? zip file on the Google drive with? a link for them to review and then we set up appointment date to write. I have managed to keep in touch with them all . Being just newbies of course looking for an HF rig at a decent price point became the focus of the day. One chap was only 14 yrs old and smart as a whip. He was
interested in drones, robotics, coding and many aspects of the ham
hobby. He keeps in touch with me and at this point is in the
process of studying to write the Fed Govt UAV pilot's exam (as I
did and hence I am a pseudo elmer to him for that also) so he can
continue flying his drones. When I sat down to write up this big picture article, I recalled
a discussion with the young lad about coding; hence my pdf write
up here was kind of organized to fit his mindset to learning
coding and at the same time? appeal to his interest in HF as well.
Sort of another way to keep his interest in the hobby up long term
until he was in a position to afford a full blown high power HF
station.? aside: {I'd much
rather see youth engaged and involved in church basements,
community clubrooms , cadet comm squadrons, or after school
programs learning practical skills and knowledge in these
areas than hanging out on street corners, malls and other
dark places. There is only a finite limited number of spots
available in the NBA hihi.} In short the doc was organized to kind of fit that lad's mindset
and learning approach with a secondary goal in the back of my mind
to be able to customize it to fit into a lesson plan of an
advanced license course to go along with using a ubitx transceiver
kit as part of a practical lab course's needed supplies list as it
were. One doesn't want to be spending endless hours of valuable
paid for classroom time just trying to get the kit power to turn
on; if you get my drift. Maybe once I get this doc filled out with the last bits of info
on troubleshooting, diagnostics, & using memory manager,
system manager & software settings adjustments (I don't know how many times I have mentioned in
posts the need for info on these items yet no related posts
explaining steps to accessing & using these specific
software applications have appeared) I will
split the doc into two parts: ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? 1. that focuses on many developer? environments eg C, C++, Java, Javascript, & Arduino IDE generally, with specific details on using Arduino IDE with???????????????????????????? uBITx kits,? as well as some extra info on coding and compiling developer environments included within linux OS's and; ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ?? 2. a description that will explain in simple terms exactly what a noobie can expect when they open the box and assemble the kit themselves outside of a classroom led environment.( more tailored to someone getting a kit and just using a forum like uBITx groups.io mail list) to self study. cheers and thanks again 73, Gud DX de VE4PER Andy

Yes, you would have to drill a hole for the 2nd paddle jack. ?But you didn't pay attention to what you read. I stated "NO hardware mods are needed to the V6 ?RADUINO" I said nothing about the case. Jim

TSW spake: "That way A7 can remain a spare as it is on the factory Raduino and NO repeat NO hardware mods are needed to the V6 Raduino." Except that you have to drill a hole in that beautiful factory case to mount an extra paddle input? Or did I miss something? 73, -- Dave, N8SBE

Re: mbitx V5 versus V6
Gordon,
I do not think that the India Post individuals would be unpacking? and then repacking ALL of the "kits" checking for What? I am sure that with all of the radios that Hf Signals shipped over the years India Post? would be familiar and good with the routine. When I ordered my "Full kit" I selected the DHL option, when DHL delivered I made a GOOD examination of the "Envelope" and did not see any "damage" I did notice a packing pressure that one can expect when similar packages are squishes together. On opening I was surprised on the thins cardboard packing box which showed numerous creases? and the lack of (minimal) protection of the internal countenance, as I indicated I previously I had to straighten (square up) the back panel. It is my belief that if I was to not pick the DHL option which provided a bit more "protection" of the countenance by the carrier the flimsy packing would be all over the world. I should have taken pictures and then compared to? the 100% sturdier? "repurposed" cardboard box of? my 2016 BTX ,that I still have with my cookie tin original. Enough of this, yes this has been a disappointment and hopefully a learning lesson for all . Best Regard. Steve AB2ET/4? ? . |
