Re: 4gb vs 8gb ?

My Bad . it says raspberry Pi 3 compatible,. not sure of PI 4 but it runs alot of different OS..Been trying it out on my mini setup and running some digital on it. there are others that have more memory for a little bit more. Not sure on the touch screen thing though. I quit the PI usage after the prices went bonkers.

JJ,

I personally quit the raspberry pi fad.

I bought an alternative from amazon which does everything for me .

you can run PI os or linux on this one.And if i read right on the specs sheet i have, the pinouts are the same for the PI too.

Re: 4gb vs 8gb ?

From an investment point of view I wonder if it is worth upgrading now from a Pi 4 2GB to a Pi 4 4GB($55) with the much faster 4Gb Pi 5($60) in stock available to buy today.?

How long will it be before this Pi 5 mod comes out? The Pi 5 would eliminate the need for an external Real Time Clock dongle.? But, it would probably require a fan, an upgraded buck power supply and a new ribbon cable.

The sBitx has had three versions in the last year...? Which is a good thing!

Upgrading to 4Gb or 8Gb is so tempting.? But, right now my radio still runs very smooth.? So, from an investment standpoint I'm going to wait.? I've got enough extra Raspberry Pi's laying around right now.? I don't know what I would do with the leftover Pi 4 2GB.

The great Pi shortage resulted in 8GB models to be astronomically priced at the time. I wasn't able to find one for a normal price or in stock.. I'd like to see if someone is using an 8GB Pi and report it's performance.

I think there is insufficient regulation to supply the peak current required by the PI.
Even if the warnings are suppressed the Pi will slow its clocks until the power stress is removed.
Additionally I would only supply the Pi with an absolute maximum of 5.25 volts.
It would be interesting to see if adding a suitable cable from the USB power port on the Pi to the regulator in the sBITX also eliminated the warnings.
Good points made. The low voltage suppress line in config.txt is also present on the as-shipped sBitx 32bit so Jerry and I didn't question it on our builds. I run my sBitx at 12.8-13.8 volts without issues. One could measure the current and voltage at the Pi to see if they are sufficient.

Hi Jens,

Two things come to mind, both around the LPF selection circuits.
1 - There is diode failure such that only one LPF is selected
2 - The HV generating circuit has a failure like Gordon Gibby had.

First, verify the proper operation of the LPF selection changing frequency in receive mode. Then, verify that the correct filter is selected.

If receiving works, verify that the HV voltage is higher than the peak voltage of the output. For 40 watts into 50 ohms, Vpeak = Squartroot(2*50*power) = 63.4 volts.

Be sure to do all tests with a dummy load connected.

sBitx DE available

I haven't worked on my sBitx DE for a while and probably won't be, so I thought I'd make it available to the group.

This is the Developers' Edition. It has been updated to V2 with the updated T/R switching and RTC. I've also added Zener diodes on some of the GPIO lines to protect the Raspberry Pi.

It's being offered without the Pi4 or the touch screen as I am using those in another project. It does include the updated hand mic from HFSignals.

I'm located near Columbus, Ohio US.

If you can use it, make me an offer.

Re: 4gb vs 8gb ?

I have an 4GB Pi here for testing 64bit and it does work a little faster.. It isn't a night and day difference, but it is faster especially with multiple apps running at the same time. If you primarily use the sBitx without a bunch of 3rd party apps running, then the 2GB Pi is fine.

Those are my 2 cents worth of observation..

Hi Louis,

This should work as it was fixed in beta2.. You may need to refresh your DNS cache on your computer with the PC browser since the IP address may have changed on your sBitx.

You can also open a command window on your pc with:

1. Open the Run menu with Windows Key + R, type "cmd," and press "Enter"
2. Type ping sbitx.local

You should get numbers printed on the screen. If you get a message back stating not found or no response, then it could be DNS issue on your network.?

Try entering this in the cmd window.
ipconfig /flushdns

Try again with sbitx.local? ?If that doesn't work, then try the IP address displayed on your sBitx at startup.

4gb vs 8gb ?

I ask for advice, is it justified to change (investment) a raspberry pi 4b 4gb (used now) with a raspberry pi 4b 8gb ? I mention I use SBITX 64bit version JJ-W9JES (thanks)!

The 64bit build suppresses low voltage warnings with this command in config.txt

Re: sBITX 32bit and 64bit Fork Available #sBitx #sBITX_v3

I'm using a 4mb rPi4B.

Re: sBITX 32bit and 64bit Fork Available #sBitx #sBITX_v3

W6LKB,

I thought that I read where config.txt is in a different folder for the 64-bit Bookworm.? I cannot get to my bench to verify.

Memory usage is the only other thing I can think of that might be different.? If you have the original 2 GB RAM RPi4, there may be more memory swapping with the 64-bit OS and an external monitor.? Try running htop or top to see if there is a lot of swapping.

JJ may have better ideas.
