Re: sbitx external T/R

Delete the user_settings file (or rename it to get it out of the way) and redo the pull.?

Re: Need replacement Raspberry Pi image

John,
can you read in

"Updating the sBitx
The sBitx like all open source software is constantly getting bug fixes and being updated. To get the latest version in, these are the steps:
1.Connect the sBitx to the Internet through Wifi or the Ethernet. Read https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/configuration.html#configuring-networking
2. Open the terminal by either pressing letter T on the keyboard while holding Ctrl and Shift down or clicking on the black terminal icon on the desktop.
3. In the terminal, use cd command to move to the sbitx directory:
??? cd /home/pi/sbitx
4. Then execute git pull:
??? git pull
Now, the latest software sources will be on your sbitx.,
5. Compile the new sources
./build sbitx
(Note that there is a dot before /build)
Now, close the terminal and run the new version of sBitx!. "

Re: sbitx external T/R

Depends on the amp TR switching requirement.? Most want a contact to
ground to put it in TX mode.

Grabbing the +12 TX line and buffering it with 2n7000 would be suitable
for most amps where the open circuit voltage is under 24V.? ?For some of
the older amps with 120V relay switching something more robust will be
needed.

sbitx external T/R

Is anyone driving an external amp with the sBitx? What did you use for T/R switching?

Re: Need replacement Raspberry Pi image

I downloaded a new image onto a new SD card. The system boots just fine. but when I start sbitx from the command line this is the error I get back:

sbitx v1.0
Unable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

(sbitx:985) :? Gtk-WARNING? **:22:13:33.268: cannot open display:
pi@raspberrypi:~/sbitx?$

Also, about upgrading the sBitx code: what is the cmd line procedure to use? git clone https:// asks for a username and password but then I find that github no longer uses passwords. What's the trick?

Re: sBITX Homebrew Misadventures by K5ATG #homebrew #sBitx

Another approach is to use 2 screens. I run sbitx on the small screen of the transceiver and then have a large 42 inch TV hooked to the micro HDMI port of the rPi. I use a mouse to control everything.

This allows me to run wsjt-x and gridtracker for digital modes (as well as js8call) and all other Pi maintenance stuff in a larger, easy to read space.

Re: removing self from bitx20 forum

I am always impressed with how tactful Ashhar's posts are, perhaps he should consider a career as a diplomat.
My posts can be a bit more caustic, I might dig in my heels to make a point that doesn't need to be made.

As Gordon Gibby said recently in post 95607:
? "I’m amazed at people like Ashhar who are willing to deal with the amateur radio community and provide experimental products. ? Not my cup of tea!"
But I was likewise impressed with how well Gordon managed the covid ventilator project a couple years ago, keeping a disparate herd of cats pulling together.
/g/VentilatorDevelopers

Ashhar publishes all the details about his designs.? He encourages others to replicate and improve his projects, and even sell them.
He is clearly not doing it to make a buck, he is doing it to encourage experimentation in amateur radio.
The uBitx has been successful because it hits a sweet spot of capability, cost, and hackability, making it an ideal learning platform.

Incidentally, the only chinese component in all the bitx radios has been the 45 MHz crystal filter. It is a fair challenge to import anything into India from China. A few years ago, India lost a few hundred kilometers of territory to China and since then, Alibaba et al have been blocked by the government.

sbitx spectrum

Is there a way to change the center of the spectrum display? It seems to be centered on the (suppressed) carrier frequency, which means that you see the spectrum for both sidebands. It would be nice if there was a way to have it centered on the center of the filter range.

sbitx \mode

On my sbitx the \mode command updates the mode displayed on the screen, but doesn't actually change the receive mode.

Re: sBitx VNC

I found a way to do it.? Don't specify VNC in the raspi-config settings. This sets the server to duplicate the touch screen which is 800x480.? Instead start a virtual screen. From a command line (I use ssh):? vncserver :1 -geometry 1920x1280.

Then in the vnc viewer, connect to the :1 screen.? This is a separate screen from the one on the touchscreen.

I've noticed that even though the screen is larger and the sbitx app is designed for 800x480, it comes up in full screen. Is there a way to start sbitx in a window?

Re: sBitx 151 is alive!

Ashar,

I've double checked the packaging and the three screws are definitely missing. It was the two on the bottom of the front and one on the bottom left of the right side.? I bought the sBix w/o the RPi and screen.

Re: sBitx 151 is alive!

Yeah, I've been buying metric screw assortments from Amazon instead of 1's and 2's. I have Prime, so I don't worry about shipping.

Gerry,

You are not alone but this hobby always seems to offer something fun and enjoyable, even if it’s just the coffee slurping fellowship of older hams at a MacDonalds. ?Last night our club presentation was about an impending problem (a piece of our antenna building up with ice and falling 400 feet into the roof of the newsroom at the TV station down below) we may have with our repeater antenna 400 feet up a TV station tower and how to raise the $2500 we will need to fix it. ?We also met with two younger kids who are studying for their Tech license. ?I helped carry many boxes of radio equipment that a local ham is selling to our club to clear out his shack before his “time” comes. ?And another younger ham brought over a “chair” he had 3D printed to hold my handheld and a pad of paper and pens. I would call it a successful ?day in the life of an old ham. ?I can still build kits but that day is slowly ending…. This hobby still brings ideas to think about to my brain, something to occupy idle time in my day, and a warm feeling to my heart as I lie down at night. ?Not to mention all the friends I have made with my comments to some of these email groups…. St Peter doncha call me cuz I am too busy…..?

expensive.? That is a challenge as a design once fixed and in
manufacture may suddenly need to be changed to accommodate

Its not as easy as it looks.

Dave,
It would be unusual to have the screws missing. The could have slipped out of the pounch into the box or spilled out onto th3 table.
Do check, pse.

I stumbled upon my sBitx with a dead screen with no display of signals etc.

After a few anxious moments and analysis I found that my "double
clicking" on the

icon resulted with 2 instances of sBitx running and only the underlying
first sBitx

screen works.

If any such weird behavior happens, close the sBitx and you may find another

running one below that should be normal!

Re: sBitx VNC

Open Terminal and type

sudo raspi-config

go down to Display Options
Down to VNC Resolutions (The wording varies to the os, I use 64 bit os if I remember rightly the 32 bit one says something different but it is pretty obvious)

I don't have an sbitx (yet) but all my radio stuff is done using a pi4 via vnc?
