We have all these display options for bitx rigs because of generous folk who do the programming,? and the open source of the design. With ft817 you must do surgery in hardware and software, it just isn't made for that. I see Laurence has a wonderful idea, use a PC interface.

BTW there is a nice, cheap enough, third party interface to USB out there. Reminds me I should get one, if they are still sold.

Hi Ted
Was looking for Cec with nextion
Turns out i just found a saved file that I had after all saved when i first got the V5.
I usually upgrade to CEC then save the factory defaults.
Regards and thanks

Subject: [BITX20] Series rresistor for Raduino 5V regulator #raduino #ubitx

Just starting to wire up my v5 uBitX and trying to solve problems ahead of time. I would very much like to install a series resistor to lighten the work of the Raduino 5V regulator, but can't for the life of me see where it can be easily done (that is, without cutting traces, etc). I have looked through most of the documentation and forum entries but haven't found any details. Could someone point me in the right direction as to how this can be physically done? If it can't be easily accomplished, given my 70+ year old fingers and eyes, I will have to settle for just a heat sink. (Which might not be a bad idea anyway, HI) Many thanks.

Hi Martin,
From my experience, you can just mount the regulator on the case (chassis), see attachment.
If you are going to use a Nextion in place of your LCD display, mine required a 3.3 ohm 2 watt
resistor in series with the input, with a 270 ufd cap to ground. Without it, I got a loud growling.
These are so much fun!!
Kind Regards..

?Hi Martin, I am really about the same relative spot as you are in building. My suggestion? would be to heat sink the unit, get the ubitx working stock, then make changes after all is functional.?

I use flrig for the 817 , works great and its "free", simple but good.
Set it up for the 817 using 4800 baud and the cat control cable to USB

Here is a screenshot
sudo apt-get install flrig on Ubuntu

Beware of faulty MIC sockets, may measure true on continuity but I had issues.
Took the MIC socket out tested voltages bare and all was well.
Replaced the MIC socket and I am back to having audio.

I had already re-soldered the wires to no avail, and this was
originally working so I have not idea,
Maybe oxidation.

Anyway in case others have issues, see thus post and

There is mention made of seeing about 12v on the mic transistor
circuit at R66 and C64, with an unplugged mic.
This 12v can only be seen however with ptt enabled from what I can see
in the schematic.

Just making sure I understand the circuit properly here

Thanks

To check, remove the PTT line from the socket and wire a switch
separately and see if the mic voltage comes up or audio increase.

Here is a picture of my connections all run true to the board and the Raduino.
The Key and the headphone are working fine, the radio is clean and
doing well on CW, both V4 and V5

The purple goes to the Raduino MIC pin Orange to the PTT but I have
low audio and the wrong Voltage.

Can anybody see an issue here.
When I key the MIC I see the carrier but its almost like the Audio is
not getting modulated on the carrier.
I have not done any BFO adjustment yet.

Hello Raj

So both V4 and V5 show about 5v only on the Violet wire for the MIC
pin when I press PTT and go into TX.
I am measuring between the MIC pin and ground when I see about 5v.

Are you seeing 10v when you press PTT and measure. Is that 10v
Peak-to-Peak between the PTT pin and the MIC pin
i.e. -5v to +5v

I will re-calibrate the BFO as well

Hello Raj

I am checking, I know the electret was correctly polarized on the V4.
I will test with it disconnected and just enabling PTT. I need to put
the V5 back in and check.
The reason I started looking into this was my audio gain was very low
with the mic.
In fact almost no signal seen when talking into the Mike, only visible
with a loud whistle on the scope.

Thanks
Laurence

Laurence,

You should see about 10V approx.

I think your electret mic polarity is wrong. The solder pad connected to the can of the mic is -ve or grounded.

Hello

What is the expected mic pin voltage when you press PTT on a v4 and V5 board.
I am seeing 4.8v on V5 seems low to me. The V4 was about 5.2v.

Thanks!? Will do.

Re: info on the V4 board mods please

Mark - N7EKU

Hi Dey,

This I think would be the starting point (from Allison's post number 53356):

The problem is if the first transistor Q71 is not biased to the half power supply
point the output are both unbalanced and the bias is wrong.? IF Q71 collector
is not at about 6V (for 12V supply) full stop.? Adjust R72 until it is.? Then adjust
the bias if needed to the complementary pair.?
This would get the first transistor in the audio amp working correctly.? Then, if needed, one could work on the push-pull pair.

73,

Mark.

Re: info on the V4 board mods please

For improving spectrum compliance you want to replace L5 and L7 and replace the relays with axicoms . Those are the more critical IMO?

I once was very much interested in 6m AM/SSB mobile, and I'm presently very much interested in 2m SSB, but there is almost NO activity in central Florida (at least this area) - and my antenna setup isn't the greatest right now.? (I used to have two 2m SSB mobile rigs plus one for parts, but they were destroyed in a fire.)

I'd always wanted to build a 6m mobile AM rig (using simple circuits and AM chip), but no interest whatsoever from any others in the area.? If I can ever finish my degree, I hope to escape this area - and maybe even find a place where the amateur interest is in homebrew, vhf/uhf (not repeaters - although they're useful) and ragchewing (NO politics or religion).

That's a good tip about the exhaust pipe.? I remember reading about that some time ago, although I've checked the other grounds (all good from a RF standpoint, except for the doghouse which is fixed).? I may also throw a nice big ground strap on the tailpipe as well!

On 3/16/19 3:40 PM, ajparent1/KB1GMX wrote:

Has anyone here ever looked at? ?? ????

That site has more info for the mobile ham than several others combined.

I've been mobile on 6&2M SSB for near 20 years.? Simple fixes works
best but grounding the tail pipe is easy and often keeps the RF under
the hood (also grounded).? Location of the antenna counts too!

There are a number of V4 board mods, I have a late model V4 board (December last year).? Which of the mods that are out there are ¡°critical¡±, for example the audio amp would be one since little audio from the board.

Thanks!
