The 2.8 will work fine and so does the 2.8 E... We also have su The battery is not required but if one is installed it keeps the settings of the RTC going even when power is disconnected. The battery is cr1220
When running the editor or installing the
ubtix_28_E.tft
file you choose the one that describes your board.
Support for the 3.2 and 3.2E - Allen, KN4UND? has done some mods and up-scaled the screens to support 3.2? ?- looks great
Release should be soon --- but only Ian knows when..

Yes E version of TFT file is for the enhanced version.? The functionality initially will be identical for both standard and enhanced versions of the Nextion.
