KD8CEC - Nextion Display - IAN questions
Ian (and the group)? In great anticipation of running the Nextion display on my uBitx, I purchased a 2.8¡±display on ebay and it arrived today.? I ordered the ¡°Enhanced¡± version and I found a lithium battery socket on the board.? Do I have to run a lithium battery for this board to work?? I figured it would be powered by the uBitx but was wondering if I had to have the battery installed for it to remember the settings I upload to it.? If the battery is required, does anyone know which battery it calls for?? Nothing on the board and no instructions came with the board so I¡¯m in the dark on this one.? Also Ian,? would I use the GUI firmware ¡°ubtix_28_E.tft¡± file?? I was thinking that the ¡°E¡± was for the enhanced version of the Nextion board.? Also, do you have any idea when the 1.09 firmware version is going to be available for download?? Can you tell I am really excited about this mod??!!!? Thanks for all you do Ian, U-Da-Man!? I haven¡¯t had this much fun in years.? 73-Gary KC6SWL |
Gary The battery is for the Real Time Clock - not required at this stage. Yes E version of TFT file is for the enhanced version.? The functionality initially will be identical for both standard and enhanced versions of the Nextion. Mike ZL1AXG uBITx.net On Tue, 19 Jun 2018 at 8:06 AM, Gary Shriver <gshriver@...> wrote:

Gary, Here some info : The battery is not required but if one is installed it keeps the settings of the RTC going even when power is disconnected. The battery is cr1220 When running the editor or installing the
ubtix_28_E.tft
file you choose the one that describes your board.
Support for the 3.2 and 3.2E - Allen, KN4UND? has done some mods and up-scaled the screens to support 3.2? ?- looks great Release should be soon --- but only Ian knows when.. ..Joe VE1BWV On Mon, Jun 18, 2018 at 5:49 PM Mike Woods <mhwoods@...> wrote:

Gary I'm sorry I could not answer your inquiry quickly.I was pretty busy for a few days work. Fortunately, Mike and Joe answered. In fact, Mike or Joe will be better at Nextion LCD than me. For reference, I use a basic LCD (without Enhanced). Because the price is cheap. And recently I found a really cheap LCD and bought it. (Less than $ 12) ,?But it was TJC, not Nextion LCD :) The firmware will be released as soon as the test is over Ian KD8CEC 2018-06-19 7:02 GMT+09:00 Gary Shriver <gshriver@...>: any word on when 1.09 is going to be ready to download?? ? |

OK.? so I'm sure I'm sounding really impatient here but,? well...? I'm really excited about getting the Nextion display going on my ubitx. ?
Ian, I was wondering if you have an idea of when the test will be finished and we can download 1.09?? I'm getting tired of refreshing my screen on your website every 30 seconds..? ;-) 73-Gary |
Gary Thank you for your interest.? I'm writing a post to make it public. you can download it soon. 30 seconds is too short. Please click in an hour :) Thank you again for your interest. Michael Unfortunately, I do not yet officially support 3.2. I only support 2.4 and 2.8. Soon the GUI firmware will have been changed by other users. I have converted 2.8 "for users with 3.2 and 3.5 in this beta. Only 2.8 sizes are displayed. It is just for testing. Ian KD8CEC 2018-06-20 10:44 GMT+09:00 Michael Shreeve <shreevester@...>:

Ian,
First, thank you for the time and effort you have put into this radio and now, a truly nice display to go with it. ? I'm new to Arduino but your tutorials and instruction allowed me to upload .hex files to the Arduino and the Nextion display. ?Everything works (V1.094) that I've tried so far.? I started using Raspberry Pi's for all my radio interfacing and digital mode operation some time ago so I could learn that little Linux board. ?They were also used for all the firmware upgrades for the uBITX and the Nextion display. When something didn't go exactly right the first time, I knew it was something I did. Because your software and procedures are top notch. You sir are doing a great service to this user community and our hobby. Lowell Haney Rome,GA |
Lowell, Thnk you for your work. LCDs usually consume much current in the backlight. Decreasing the backlight brightness will certainly reduce current consumption. Adjusting the brightness of the backlight generates noise.? I think this is probably a problem with LCDs that use most inverter type backlights. I think that the way to reduce the brightness in hardware is coming soon. Perhaps users who use uBITX as Portable will also be able to use Nextion LCD. Ian KD8CEC 2018-06-22 8:05 GMT+09:00 Lowell <lowell.haney@...>: Just got in a 2.4 and a 3.2 Nextion display.? I'd seen some comments on the current draw and the possible need for a heat sink on the existing 5V regulator or maybe even a separate supply. So I just measured both on the bench. |
