I would have assumed it was mechanical.
Me, too, since most optical encoders would cost at least 10% of the ?BITX's retail price. However, another poster pointed out that you can "convert" a mechanical encoder to a "detentless" encoder by removing the ball inside the encoder. I've never tried that.

It's a "bunch of wires" but I'm glad to see you have it
fired up and working. I just received a confirmation
that mine has shipped, but I didn't go for DHL so
I'm sure it will be a few weeks.

Perhaps Ashhar can confirm that. I could be wrong, but
