Farhan:

Of course I agree that copyrighted work, which is almost always the case when a publishing house is involved, should not be copied. However, I also know that thousands of torrent sites have been shut down, only to have them reopen a few days later by the same people. One of my publishers asserts that for every paid copy there are 6 copies that were downloaded illegally. I had one university in Brazil, one in Denmark, and one in Illinois that were giving downloads of my books free in the university library! ?I wonder how many we don't know about.

As I said before, the income I lose pales to insignificance when you consider the discouraging effect it has on potential authors or subsequent volumes by established authors. Not only is information not free, the concept of free information actually reduces the potential for more information by discouraging writers from further effort.

Jack,
The house rule is clear : it is illegal to encourage distribution of works that are copygright with rights to distribute reserved. Books are a result of long labour. I marvel that the amount of intense work that produces a book like the EMRFD or the AoE. There is a misconception among many that 'information is free'. It is as free as the cutlery at your friend's home.
On this group, we must insist on discouraging people from piracy. Authors must decide if their work is freely sharable or not.

$49.95 so a bit more than Andrew's find but certainly a lot better than the Amazon prices.

Well, I found a copy - brand new softcover with cd-rom - on eBay for $46.11 after shipping. I don't think you're going to beat that - I've crosschecked all my sources. The next best price seems to be Abebooks.com for $80 shipped. Amazon is all over the place from $99 to $280. So it must be one hell of a book after all.

I'll know by next week :)
