Fernando, for reference, the regulators i bought:

i picked up some 5v regulators at the same time but it seems the bias regulators are ok on my boards (for the moment)...

hi Fernando, the regulator is U2, a SMD
LM78L09. i am fortunate enough to have two bitx40 boards and
was using one to diagnose a problem on the other. the
problem quickly became apparent after burning the tip of my
finger by touching the bad 9v regulator. it had a short and
was pulling quite some current. i replaced it with a good
one from ebay and the board worked fine. however in my haste
and exuberance, i reverse polarized the other working board
and had a new patient on the operating table. that one gave
an open circuit on the U2 9v regulator (along with the other
crispy components). i have not changed out the rf drive
components but have fresh parts on order for this purpose.

well as a fuse to make
it idiots proof, hi. Will let you know
of the out come next
