Re: SBITX v3 - Ability to use a Headset for phone modes

Paul

Latest update:
Replaced Jabra headset with a UGREEN branded usb sound card that takes 3.5mm jack inputs for speaker/microphone. Using a splitter to allow the usual 3.5mm TRRS connection from a pc headset, connected a Nuroum branded headset I picked up off Amazon for use with my Freedv ezDV module and tested again.
Volume control worked as expected, didn’t with the Jabra headset.
Mic gain control worked as expected and indicated value changed as expected, didnt with the Jabra.
The moral here I think, is to use a USB sound card and a splitter to allow connection of 3.5mm terminated pc headsets rather than a USB specific headset based on this test, for me anyway, others may have different experiences depending on the headset used.
Next steps now to see if I can get a better power to voice ratio now as not getting expected power out of the radio on SSB, probably only peaking about 5w which is way short of the expected 25w peak. Not bothered about getting the full 25w but defo want more than 5w out for SSB operation.
Now to start testing Gordon’s modifications to see how they improves things regarding frequency response.

Paul
