Regarding the SSB peaks.? ? I haven't put this on an oscilloscope -- and won't know until I do -- but i have always felt the analog-measured average powers when speaking into a microphone? were very low. Especially on Upper side band -- and the reason for that is asymmetry?in the crystal filter....fixed by simple coding that I added.? ?In my case, adding a multiplier of 1.4 to the upper side band worked fine (adds 3 dB to output power). I also raised the "clipping level" somewhat; it appeared that Ashhar had empirically set that, and I'm sure he did the best he could.? ? It may vary by different voices.?? When I adjusted these various values, voice seemed to work pretty well.? ?And I can?drive the SB-200 amplifier to a few hundred watts output with the radio and the?opto-coupled output relay signal that I developed. ALC: I have managed to? demonstrate?real action of the ALC software by reducing its cut-in point down to where I could see it take effect.? ?I think my zeners on the gates may be limiting my output but until I changed things, I never saw the ALC drop below 1.0000.? ? So some learning still to be done on my part there.? ? These values will be different on units?set for 25 watts output?versus mine, which is a 40W unit with the older MOSFET design. Since I do a good bit of digital, using FSK modulations as well as PSK modulations, I like to confirm that a signal is indeed getting out!? ??
