Thanks Gyula. I'm missing where the article refers to the DE. Where is that indicated?
In the image of the board, the rev info is covered by the wire. Although I can see the year 2021.

I don't have a current-limited power supply, for now I'm using a 5A fuse.

it's not the software that changes the chances of failure, but the current-limiting power supply, a well-matched antenna and a well-functioning silent fan that is attached to the heatsink. The rest of my modifications were my own attempts.
I note that my antenna is sized for 7MHz (43.8m wire length) and I can use it on three bands without a tuner.
