i compared the 4 different hw_setting.ini files that came with my V3.? No two are the same.?
The hw_settings.ini from the factory for the V3 seems to contain the "calibrated" values for the V3 that was supplied.? That implies that anyone upgrading to the V3 code and hardware would get the best results by doing the calibration.??
If upgrading a DE or V2 to run V3 software, you must copy over the old hw_settings.ini file or manually calibrate the sBitx V2 or V3 to ensure that the max power will not be exceeded.? This needs to be documented, both what it means and how to do it.?
There is also a "clip=" setting in the first three band settings, which is then dropped for the remainder of the bands.? I also noted that this setting is not used in the code, at least as far as I can tell.
None of the files have descriptions of purpose or contents.? For other projects, there is usually a text file describing each file and field.? I will start that effort and report back with what I find.
The last discrepancy is the missing files on GitHub.? If you download the code from GitHub using the zip option, you will not find the hw_settings_v3.ini file.
None of the above seems to be in the documentation besides the code.? If I have missed that, please let me know so I do not spend time on what has already been done.
The sBitx in the V3 format is a really good radio from a hardware point of view.? There are still issues with the FT8 operation that need to be solved, and the update process needs to be better documented.
One last area for possible improvement is the conversion to Bookworm on the Raspberry Pi.? That should be done to allow for Raspberry Pi 5 use in the future.
The above are my observations.? I may have missed something or gotten bad data.? Use at your own risk.
