Re: PIC16f1938 and changing eeprom
If it's a Chinese kit you'll probably find that they read protected the PIC. The vendor I got my ATU-1000 from told me the factory does that on all of them. There's a thread on here somewhere about someone else having that same issue.

Strangely enough cause ya cant buy the original atu-100 ive had 2 stop workin for literally no reason but the power shits is 1.5w or less and thats either my 7300 tx power at 10W or even my 705 with 1M coax and txin 5W but the 2nd atu-100 powers uo but the relays dont switch and we need latchung relays for it cause they use about 250ma sittin there keepin ya tune On Tue, 22 Feb 2022, 2:07 pm Emory Haines, <wm3m73@...> wrote:

Re: PIC16f1938 and changing eeprom
I tried microchip IPE on macOS, but it was really unstable. Switched to Linux (Parrot) and all works fine. Parrot is Debian-based so similar to Ubuntu. I¡¯m using a cloned 3. @Jo - The zero values are probably because the original burn was read protected - look in the config info. The only way around that is to erase and reprogram (make sure you uncheck the protection flag).? You might find that you need to play around with the voltage. Initially I had to go down to 2.75v, but seems to work okay on 5v now.? |

Re: PIC16f1938 and changing eeprom
Hi Onno,
I am experimenting with the atu-100 now (100W version) and I made a backup of the hex file with pk2cmd and a PICKIT2 as follows: pk2cmd -PPIC16F1938 -A5 -T -R -J -GFN7DDC.hex I can send you my backup file if you like. I am currently looking into reading the EEPROM, no luck so far. It should be something like: pk2cmd -PPIC16F1938 -R -J -GE00-3F But I get all zero's: Read successfully.?????????? ? Re: High initial SWR
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDennis, I had a similar problem.? Turned out one of the tiny leads from the binocular core was not making contact with the board.? I re-heated all 4 tiny wires, enough to make sure all the coating was burned off.? Tuner worked fine after that. Good luck? 73 Emory? WM3M On 2/21/2022 6:13 PM, Dennis C wrote:

High initial SWR
I recently complete a ATU-100 kit, built and re-flashed with the QRP mod.
When I run in Auto mode, the tuner re-tunes every time I start to transmit.? This appears to be because when I begin to transmit, there is a SWR spike, so the tuner thinks it needs to tune, but in reality the high SWR is transient and the settings already tuned are just fine.? I can see this happening on the display - testing in manual mode.? I see the initial SWR be high, then immediately come down where it should be. Is there a way to prevent this SWR spike from happening? or alternatively, have auto mode pause a bit until the SWR reading settles. Just as a side note in case it matters, when I transmit without tuning (high SWR) the power reading is high.? For example, my uBitx puts out about 15 watts on 80 meters, but before tuning I have seen a reading has high as 42 watts on the display.? This comes down to the expected value once tuned. I have noticed similar behavior on other devices, just not to this degree. Thanks -- Dennis |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThank you really very much for the detailled information. Now I have an idea where to dig further. Especially the hints regarding how to test the display is helpful although I will check whether the connecting cable is providing a good contact etc.?Vy 73 de? Rolf, DL8BAG? Re: where to find software that works for the pickit 3 programmer?
If you¡¯re changing 05, do the coil change as well (physical and code). Also do the max power change.? I¡¯ve just been through this yesterday and today. ?It¡¯ll be pretty unstable if you leave the turns and the ratio at 10, but I can confirm that now, with 5 turns, it tunes from my mcHF on about 2W ? You have to accept that if you are making this work for QRP then it¡¯s a stretch to make it work for 100 watts too. If you change the coil and try to run it on full power you¡¯ll release the magic smoke.? Alternatively build it for 100 W and also build an ATU10 for QRP. I¡¯m thinking about getting some PCBs made in Chinaland so may have some spares.?

The 0.96 inch OLED display with SSD1306 controller?is usually accessed at i2c address 3C.? Some are at address 78.
Some modules have address select pads on the back.?Refer to the SSD1306 datasheet: ? ?

If you have a spare ESP32, ESP8266, or other Arduino supported board lying around, compile an i2c scan tool (it only takes a few minutes)?
??
The Arduino software build uses the Wire library, available for all Arduino supported boards.?

?
On a Raspberry Pi?
?sudo apt-get install python-smbus i2c-tools?
?sudo i2cdetect -y 1?

The i2cscan utility tests communicating to all i2c addresses and reports results on the serial debug terminal.?
To actually display something, you need more code using additional libraries:?

ATU-10 Charging
kg4zqz
first, tks to David for this great tuner and gift to the ham community!
my simple question: "How long does it usually take to charge batteries in the ATU-10?" obviously, that would depend on the capacity 800mA vs 400mA, etc. tia for any 'cocktail napkin' estimate... i have read the github docs, but do not have experience with the usb charging chip and its capabilities... |
Re: Programming & compiling from github source code
I believe you guys are homing in on a really great ATU. Going away from the BAT41 diodes to AD8361s or AD8307s is a good step to eliminate diode non-linearity problems, especially at the low end. Forward biasing the diodes also helps the low end at low power. The next step is to improve the ADC range to more than 10 bits (10bits won't cut it) . The step after that is to provide frequency compensation. The power/SWR will change depending on the Stockton Bridge characteristics (material, etc). You would like the data to be correct all the way from 160m to 6m. Or at least that's my idea and what I've done before on the AQRP mWattmeter back in 2012.
