Hi, If the PIC is connected is should automatically be detected by the PICkit 3 software.
A few points to check.
- Is the ATU powered when running the software? If not, you can power the PIC from the programmer by selecting the option.
- Check that the MCLR connection is made from the programmer to the PIC.
There are several posts on the forum that may help if you do a search for PICkit.
You should be able to manually select the PIC16F device under the ¡°Midrange¡± option, but this should not be necessary.
