Henrietta Seiberling

Wondering if any of you scholars may be able to assist.? Henrietta Buckler was born in Lawrenceburg, KY and is buried here in KY. She attended college in NY and that is where she lived when she died.? She met Lt John Seiberling while he was mobilized with the Ohio National guard in El Paso, TX during the same time and by the same new federal authorities Bill was mobilized from Norwich.? Question is why was Henrietta in El Paso, TX. One source (John Seiberling bio) says she was from there. So living there maybe but why and when?? After graduation from Vassar College in NY???
There is a document cited in Wikipedia I don't have access to. it was written by Bill Pittman and Richard G. Burns. anyone have access that can put it in the files?? It may be helpful in answering the question.
Thank you all very much for any help you can provide.
Roger Wheatley

Letter from Nell Wing

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Founder¡¯s Day today and I wax back to 1981 when I painted the attached portraits.? In the process, I had asked Nell Wing (Bill¡¯s secretary for 25 years) to describe the physical characteristics (hair and eye color, etc.). When completed I sent Nell photos of Bill and Dr. Bob and she commented as you can read in the attachment. I actually met Nell, very briefly. at the 1995 International Convention in San Diego. This is, of course, ?one of my favorite AA keepsakes. The originals are hanging at my local club.

Bernard B Smith and his contribution to AA

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I thought of doing some sort of write up on Bern, but I think reading the intro to the book is sufficient, and the remainder of the info paints a pretty good picture of his contribution and influence.

AA Big Book Historical Presentation

This will be an in-depth presentation on the Our Basic Text using powerpoint and archival research. Our hope is that everyone who is a student of the history of AA as well as those who may not be will benefit extremly from these presentations. Drew will be cataloguing places, people, and events with powerpoint and Bill will use his extensive research as well as powerpoint to communicate the Twelve Step Experience that the Big Book Transmits.

Bernard B Smith book

This book was assembled, bound, and inscribed especially for Bern Smith. The photos are all the description it needs!

Re: UK 1st Edition Big Book

Fantastic work. Thanks. I appreciate you confirming that UK Big Books have continued to have the same stories as American editions. I wondered.

Re: Who is Ed Nyland?

Serveral on-line sources, including the Final Report of the 69th Annual Meeting of the General Service Conference of Alcoholics Anonymous, list an Ed Nyland, as "Senior Production Manager, Print" at A.A.W.S., and the January 2020 issue of the *A.A. Grapevine", in an article titled "One Book¡¯s Journey" says he's a non-alcoholic (p 31). I have no idea if this the same Ed Nyland who supposedly helped write Dr Bob and the Good Oldtimers. The one I found theoretically could have helped with the book's publication, but that was 42 years ago.

Thanks for the background, Thom, on the goings on with silkworth dot net.
I wondered if something seriously had happened of late to the website with all the ads and web bugs I encountered that I swore had not been there before.
I thought it was just me.
That's really really sad to hear.

And is still available

[Moderator note: Yes but it's now being run by a rather nasty person who is trying to use it as a money grab. The reason that silkworth.info is down is because this person attacked it with "DMCA takedown requests" and had the silkworth.info forced offline so that the silkworth.net (that they purchased from the old owner and yes, that was the mistake, the old owner believed that he was giving the site to someone who would care for it, not exploit it) version of the site can stay up... but with lots of very shady ads and web bugs. Forcing silkworth.info offline was cruel and the new .net owner should not be benefitting from this in my view.... but currently they are benefitting in very shady ways. And YES this is all on topic for AAHL. It leads straight to some important sources for our research being available, accessible and not corrupted by opportunists. What can be more important than that? -Thom]

[Moderator comment: Yes, it is. Long story as to what happened but the new person running silkworth.net is now trying to make money from it. Yes, mistakes were made. There's a lot going on in the background and AAHL is trying to help. Fingers crossed. -Thom]

Thanks for your question, Liese.
?
I did a Google search for "Glenn Chestnut Jim Burwell early AAs first famous atheist."
This is what popped up on Google:
PDF
Atheism, Moral Psychology, and the Deus Non Vocatus in Early Alcoholics Anonymous. Jim Burwell: early AA's first famous atheist by Glenn F. Chesnut.
?
The link above leads to a pdf which doesn't have any viruses attached according to my computer.
?
Perhaps this is the document you were thinking of.
The document is 7 pages long.
Hoping that attaching the document is permissible in this group.

Soon they spotted their man, an AA with the necessary experience

In The 12 Steps and 12 Traditions, Tradition 6, pages 157 and 158:

Paragraph 2, sentence 2 starts, ¡°Some of the great distilling companies proposed to go into the field of alcohol education.¡±

The 3rd paragraph goes on about finding a person in AA.

Paragraph 4: ¡°Soon they spotted their man, an AA with the necessary experience.¡±

?

Does anyone know who that man is?

?

I did a search on this group's messages and found no answers.

Thanks for any info you can provide.
