Bike rack

I have an Aliner Scout Lite so no propane tanks. Has anyone installed a bike rack on the tongue? I need something low because I can¡¯t lift my bike high. I¡¯m hoping to install a bike rack made for a car roof on my Aliner tongue.

I also have an Aliner with no propane, & I've installed a bike rack on the tongue.? Works great, I am at work so when I get home tomorrow or Tuesday - I'll take some pics and send some info on the way Mounted it.

Happy camping

Be careful here.? Karen you have the small trailer and Dan may have a larger trailer.? With your smaller trailer you have to check turning clearance.? Hitch up your trailer, go to a parking lot, and turn in as tight of a circle as you can. You might want to do that in stages to make sure the car doesn't hit the trailer.? If it doesn't hit, measure the distance between the rear corner of the car and your trailer, and make sure a bike/rack doesn't exceed that distance.

I also don't know if your trailer can handle the extra 50 lbs or so on the trailer tongue.? I'd call aliner and ask.? You're probably OK on that but asking won't hurt.

Lastly make sure your car can handle the extra tongue weight.

Here are some pictures of the bike rack I mounted.

It is mounted on the same model trailer that you have - a scout lite 10' box.? I have been using it with regular bicycles and ebikes for the last 6 years without issue.? Just took it on a 2000 mile camping trip through Nevada, Idaho & Montana & back - worked great ( did the bicycle route of the Hiawatha in Idaho/Montana - a must do if your in that area with your bicycle)

I wouldn't worry about the weight - the frame on the Aliner 10 scout is the same as the ranger 10 which has propane and is heavier than the? ebicycle and rack I have.

As for turning radius - never had an issue in 6 years towing and backing up etc... Plenty of clearance (from the center of the ball to the bike is approximately 32") and you can see in the pic that the bike is no wider than the camper (it's a 700cc bike so it's on the large size).? If you plan on mounting 2 bikes up there I would definitely mock something up and check your turning clearance prior to getting all the stuff.

- it is bolted in the area that normally would have propane tanks (using 4 carriage bolts)

I used a rack like this one, not the same exact model but similar ( check harbor freight they carry some good bike racks at a more reasonable price)

In your email you stated you wanted the bike rack with ramps - or with no lifting - check amazon they some with ramps that extend and collapse from the rack and should be relatively easy to mount in the same place as mine. (They look a bit pricey but with an ebike it would be nice)

Good luck - it definitely is nice having a bike on a trip?

That's a good rack for mounting on a trailer tongue.? Its nice and compact and fits in a narrow space.? It doesn't grab the bike by the frame, which rubs off the paint.? And it looks like it fits the bike over the battery real nice.

Hi all, we have a 2015 Expedition, and to use our bike rack, we use a Conner DuoHitch, which allows us to add a bike rack to the trailer hitch.
hope this helps.

The only thing duohitch or any other double mount system, it does reduce the weight rating of your hitch.? Usually since aliners are light weight this isn't an issue but it's something to be aware of

Some of those hitch extending rigs that double the pin to ball distance say they cut the max hitch weight in half.. Thats a big deal for the typical Aframe with a 250 lb hitch weight.

I got my bike rack installed. Moved the battery because I was worried about the handle bars damaging the window. Attaching pics.

Very nice setup!!? Really like how you moved the battery does give a lot more space.
