Trimmed Tongue Jack

Hi Gang:

We had our hitch and tongue jack catch on curb dips. After I straightened the jack, I trimmed the bottom off and also added a spacer to lift the jack an inch higher. It helps.

Painted the tongue Yellow so I could see it in the dark.

That brings up one other issue too.? When towing over a driveway dip, an extended hitch will come closer to the ground and may hit.? If that happens it may damage your tongue jack.? You can raise the tongue jack a bit to compensate, but it's best to extend the hitch as little as possible.

Years ago I had the problem of the jack hitting pavement, hard to release, etc. I solved the problem permanently by installing three 4" chrome plumbing nipples and longer machine screws, thus raising the jack 4". It still has plenty of lift and never hits the pavement.?

I just saw the Jack-E-Up on the Towing topic thread. What a great solution.

Hehe, it sounds like it will work, but the YouTube demo video shows it installed on a pickup and trailer where the tailgate does NOT hit the jack.
