Re: Air conditioner install - what tool to cut the opening?
Hello, there were no instructions or directions in the kit.
4 ?pieces of aluminum that create a boxed border around the wall opening.
1 piece of aluminum that is the “mounting bracket that would be screwed to the exterior of the air conditioner and then the exterior of the camper wall.
‘A drip pan.
A plastic wind deflector.
1 tube of sealant.
A black fabric AC cover for the exterior.
4 “snap buttons”
nothing more.
?
I thinks I’ll cut the opening about 3” down from the where the wall hinges .
that would still keep plenty of wall above the wheel well.?
im also thinking of reinforcing the wall with aluminum angle on the interior on each side of the opening. r.y.

Dehumidifier
开云体育Hi Gang: I just picked up a dehumidifier at Habitat. It is real small, about the side of a portable heater. No compressor, it uses peltier junction to collect moisture, so it should be quiet. It is suggested for bedrooms, etc, so it should keep our campers dry. You do have to dump the reservoir and it only holds 50cl? I'll let you know how it works. Carl. |
Re: Air conditioner install - what tool to cut the opening?
Were you going to install it in the traditional way, or down lower?? Did you get install instructions with the kit?

Re: Air conditioner install - what tool to cut the opening?
I just talked to Kevin at ALiner.
He says the wall rear of the entry door, inside the cabinet is the traditional location for the A/C install.?
He said any other location would be a special custom install request by a customer on a new build.? I told him that I had purchased the “kit”.? He didn’t have any additional advise. He was very pleasant about what he could share.

Re: Air conditioner install - what tool to cut the opening?
开云体育Hi Gang: I did make one change on our LG6000 AC. In the dehumidify mode the compressor and the fan cycle on and off. The fan cycling would wake up up, so I rewired the fan so I could switch it to "ON" continuously. Now when the compressor? cycles, (and it does often for a few minutes) we don't notice it. Also it would
have been much easier to add the fan switch before the unit was
in the wall. I had to add an access panel on the top of the
outside. Carl. On 5/2/2025 9:29 AM, Don DeRyke via

Re: Air conditioner install - what tool to cut the opening?
开云体育Hi Gang: Please let us
know of the answers you get from technical support. I put our
replacement AC in the same hole as the old AC. My goals were 1)
a quieter unit, 2) add braces to the wall that was starting to
lean out and prevent the roof from closing. An added benefit is
the dehumidifier setting on the AC. In the pictures of my rework
you can see the diagonal braces I added to pull the roof back in
line. Not easy to see are the braces under the frame the the
diagonals depend on. Dripping condensation shouldn't be a problem, window AC units are designed to drip out side, not inside your house. Our new AC doesn't even have a drip hole, the condensation is used to cool the hot coils. You're welcomed to study the photo from our campers and ask questions. I've done a lot of work to keep our 2000 unit going. Carl. PS: the

Re: Air conditioner install - what tool to cut the opening?
If I were you I'd call aliner technical support and ask them how they recommend installing an air conditioner.? If you install it above the wheel well, you risk removing so much wall material it could make the wall too weak.? If you put the AC on top if the wheel well, it may need additional bracing to prevent crushing the wheel well liner.? ACs tend to collect water, and you put a pan underneath them to avoid leaking water from rotting the floor, and i dont know how youd do that above a wheel well. I've never heard of someone in this group installing an ac above a wheel well, so getting input from aliner could save you from having problems. |
Re: Air conditioner install - what tool to cut the opening?
开云体育Hello Ray: I've replaced
our AC and added a skylight over the table area. I drilled the
corners from the outside and then used a fine tooth saber saw
blade. The cutting isn't hard, for us 0.5mm aluminum, Styrofoam
and 4mm plywood, an easy cut. I did re-enforced the AC opening
with aluminum. Here are photos of the job, that included a new cabinet under the AC: /g/A-frameCamperForum/album?id=124085 Good luck,

Air conditioner install - what tool to cut the opening?
2004 ALiner Expedition. Never had A/C. Going to cut the opening over the passenger side wheel well. I’ve purchased the “kit” from ALiner Columbia. What is the best way to cut the wall?
Which tool (saw) is best?
Best to cut from outside?
Thanks!

Re: Propane CO detector recommendations
I strongly recommend a separate CO detector, mounted up high. Propane is heavier than air, while CO is lighter. There are very sensitive, battery operated CO detectors. Get one that displays the CO level. We find that the CO level gets quite high when using the stove, unless we turn on the fan and crack a window.

Re: Propane CO detector recommendations
开云体育Or install a simple switch in the black or red wire leading to your detector, so you can disable it if needed.? Be sure to turn it on whenever you're using propane.?Dave? ............? I'd also put the alarm on a separate fuse in your converter, so you can pull that fuse if need be.? Its really hard to bust those things open to disable them. |
Re: Propane CO detector recommendations
I got the Dometic (used to be Atwood) dual LPCO alarm, because it's what I had before, it works, and I didn't want to drill new holes for some other brand.
?
As far as I know, they all sound the alarm at low power levels.? Also, they all sound the alarm after some number of years, so you must buy a new one.? Can't get out of that either.? So write the install date on the alarm with a sharpie, and make sure you replace it before the alarm goes off.

Re: File /2021 Aliner Owner's Manual.pdf uploaded

Some folks (including me) remove the initial set of gas springs and replace them with a better alignment to provide lift assistance when it is required with the lowest force gas springs.? The factory started installing the springs in a better manner on some Aliners starting in 2019.? The internal springs and the add-on gas springs weaken with age.? You might want to consider upgrading to the newer method.? The closer to a right angle of force application, the better the lift torque applied to the roof panels.? I use 26" springs that are 30 pounds on the rear and 40 pounds on the front.? Due to (less than optimum) installation of gas springs on the dormers in 2015 and roof panels starting in 2016 or so, the factory had to use very powerful gas springs to make up for NOT aligning the force to be more perpendicular to the panel. |

My 2022 Aliner LXE doesn't have the gas springs installed in the location the sales brochure shows.
