Re: Dormer seal
I am getting in on this a bit late, but I arched two layers of foam sticky back weatherstripping over the door.? (See pic) It is soft, so folding up the camper is no problem. When open it expands back to size. When raining the water flows around the outside of the door. Scott

Re: Dormer seal
All, I am leaning to a dam of maybe 1/4" weather seal. Should be compressible enough to allow for opening and closing of dormer, yet direct some of the water to the other side. Probably won't help in a big down pour, but the we probably will not go in or out until it settles down. We will see ...

Re: Dormer seal
We had the same issue with our 2016 Expedition (Soft Dormer). I solved it easily by attaching a piece of aluminum U Channel on the edge of the roof. The piece I used was 8mm wide and 11mm high (internal with 6mm, 1/4 inch) and It works great for dew and rain moving the run-off away from the door and down to the front of the roof, in a thunderstorm it is not effective.? |

Hi Dan: I’m thinking either set up your camper so it’s slightly off-level so the door side is higher than the street side – not very convenient – or build a dam that deflects the water flow down the side of the door side extrusion instead of over it onto you. Dave ……………………. Unexpected problem: any rain or dew or melting snow or ice runs in channel between roof and dormer. Not a big deal EXCEPT in front of the door! There is a river running down in front of the door! So every time you go in or out of the door you get soaked even just if it's from dew in the morning.? Anyone have any suggestions to fix or control this?

Just got our new Expedition with dormers to replace our old Expedition.?

Re: Repair advice? 2021 A-Liner. tree branch punctured roof
Yeah, insurance would be my first go to as well.? We had insurance on the camper but we were not using it for over a year so I cancelled the insurance. The camper was just sitting there.
?
Right after I cancel, we got a big wind storm next month and this happened.??
?
Out of pocket cost for replacing the whole section is 6K -- 10K from a local dealer.? I think I am just gonna patch it.? It may not look as good, but should be functional.??
?
Best,
Peter

Also available in various widths and lengths cut from bulk rolls from numerous eBay sellers. Cost varies greatly so shop carefully.? Hey Steve,

I do like the easier solution.? Save the time and money.??
?
Where would you go about sourcing the:
- filon board?
- right type of glue
- EternaBond tape to type outer layer for rain ()
?
Hopefully the color matches the filon board I have.? I won't need too much material either.

Bungee Cords
Hi All,
???? I was thinking about some spring projects for my 2021 Aliner classic, and one is to replace the stretched and deteriorating factory bungee cords.? The cords seem to come in different strengths and diameters as well as lengths.?? So, I was wondering what other people have used as replacements and what has worked best.? Specifically, I would be interested in the best diameter and strength as well as what length I might need for my camper.? |
Re: Repair advice? 2021 A-Liner. tree branch punctured roof
For the filon, I'd ask Aliner. But that one may be hard to find in small quantities.? Just FYI filon is sold in rolls.?
?
For the glue, use epoxy.
?
I wouldn't use any eternabond.? Just glue the filon down, and caulk around the edges.
?
One other thought in this repair though.? A 2021 Aliner is worth a lot of money.? Why don't you use insurance?? They will probably replace the whole roof section, and it will look superb.? You'll have to pay your deductible, but you'll get more than that back when you sell it.? That's the route I'd go with a newer unit. |

Re: Repair advice? 2021 A-Liner. tree branch punctured roof
My first piece of advice would be to wait at least a week before you do anything.? That way you'll do it the best way for your purposes.?
?
You have many options on how to do this repair.? You could? lay a piece of filon over the outside of the hole (filon is the 1/16th inch thick fiberglass that your trailer has as an outer skin), and glue in place.? Lay a piece of fiberboard over the inside of the hole and glue in place.? Drill a small hole through the inner patch, squirt some foam in there, put some caulk in the hole, then paint the inner patch.? This would be the easiest way.
?
Next step up would be cut out the area of the hole, then cut out an area from the top that is one-inch bigger that the prior hole, but don't cut through the inner skin.? Then lay a piece of 1/16" aluminum in the hole, resting on and glued to the inner skin for strength.? Then lay foam in the hole, and a piece of filon on top of the foam.? Also fit a piece of fiberboard board in the hole on the inside, and paint to match.
?
As an alternative you could lay fiberglass cloth on the outside, paint with epoxy resin, sand and gelcoat.? That would give the best look, but fiberglass repairs are a LOT of work. |
Re: Repair advice? 2021 A-Liner. tree branch punctured roof
开云体育Hello Again: Check out the photo I took during our skylight installation: /g/A-frameCamperForum/album?id=124000 It was a bit scary to cut the big panel out, but it went fine. The view from the table inside was certainly worth it. Our camper
has aluminum outside and 5mm plywood inside. A small piece
wouldn't be bad to ship to the Pacific NW. Carl. On 2/28/2025 2:58 PM, oboist_smack.7r

Thank you both @dan_smartt and @carl for replying and get ideas.?
?
I am gonna do what you both suggested.? I will cut a square today and I will source some scrap parts and attempt to patch it soon.
?
I may take up on your offer @carl for spare parts if I can't find some locally.? Happy to send your some gift from Pacific NW in return :)? |
