Re: Wind Cheeta
开云体育? Truckers who use straps to hold down trailer loads often twist the straps a few times, so they don’t drum in the wind.? You might try that with your Wind Cheeta straps, but they may then jam when they enter the retractor mechanism.? ? As I’ve said before, there are a number of issues with this complex system.? Just be sure you’re aware of them before you buy, ‘cause one of the issues is that they’re really expensive! ? Dave ? ………………… ? Re: Electrical hum from left brake on Aliner
开云体育? Good guess, but this is factually inaccurate.? The hum is totally caused by a working brake actuating magnet.? Sorry. ? Dave ? ………………….. ? Hum is caused by AC voltage. How does AC get into a 12VDC system? Maybe it's generated by the brake controller, but my guess is that you had the converter plugged into 120VAC and the 60Hz ripple was getting into the brake magnet current. |
Water filters. (formerly Water pump)
The rvwaterfilterstore.com has some good filters. ?I got a standalone sediment filter from them for filtering water before it goes into the tank. ?But Ive only had to use it once.

But as far as putting in an inline filter, I think it would be too much hassle. ?I wouldn't want to let stagnant water sit inside the filter for weeks between camping trips. ?Removing the filter, draining it and drying it would be a hassle. ?Sterilizing the tank with bleach once and a while would be less work. Plus a filter is a real easy thing to have leak.? Realistically, though, you'd have to put some pretty nasty water in your tank to cause problems. ?I've never had anything grow in my tank. ?I do drain it between trips, however. ?When I fill it at home before a trip, that's city water and has chlorine in it. ?So there's some sterilization from that. Re: Water pump
PMH
When I first bought my '07 Chalet Arrowhead the pump started to leak the very first time I used it. I repaired it but started thinking about a better way. I eliminated the pump and installed a marine foot pump ( Whale Gusher) and it is great! Not only do I have hands free operation for washing and filling pots etc. but I use much less power and water. This may not matter if you have unlimited water and power, but for dry camping it's great. Even when there's a water hook up I usually use the tank and foot pump. That way I always have fresh water in the tank from refilling it as needed.

Re: Best Generator to power "Entire" trailer at once?
Wow, you had quite a struggle with that unit. Just for grins, the Powerhorse brand is also blue :) and it just works... with more capacity than advertised. Perhaps due to the copper windings they brag about. So far it has started by the third pull every time regardless how long ago it was last used. ---In alinerchaleta-frames@..., <tim@...> wrote : Fred wrote: "I had never heard of the Powerhouse brand and thought you meant the Powerhorse brand by Northern Tool which I have.? One of those two or three star reviews would be mine on Amazon. :) We had the 2100 with an impressive feature set like remote electric start (no need to go outside to start the generator in winter). What is the point of a remote electric start if the motor doesn't start, or starts and stalls right away, and you wear out the battery trying to restart it. :( I couldn't find a solution and I played around with everything, returned it to the manufacturer for a "tune up" that didn't make a difference. I even entertained the idea of changing out the delay valve on the automatic vacuum choke. If you didn't run it often it fouled plugs due to oil leaking past the rings, so I had to change the plug almost every time we needed to use it. It was very heavy with the extra weight of the starter motor and battery. Louder than we hopped, but not offensive. The final issue was the motor stalling out when we turned on the coffee maker. The motor could not provide enough power to handle the surge required from economy mode unless it was already under some load (like a quick microwave startup). We sold it for a 1/3 of what we paid for it and picked up a Yamaha at the next RV show sale price, no Honda's were on sales/display that year. We are completely satisfied with the Yamaha, no issues. I have started it up with one or two pulls in -20 Celsius, it detects the cold and warms itself up before going into economy mode, plus no stalls when the coffee maker starts up. If you have read this far, I suspect you can understand why I suggest sticking with a known good solution of Blue or Red, unless you have direct experience and feedback on the colour you are looking at. Re: Water pump
We must be on the same wavelength? :)
My system has a lot of PEX tube and fittings in the? connections to the pump. Just got back from a fruitless search for a FIP brass or plastic tee to covert to flexible looped lines.? On to mod 2:? This pump was mounted on plywood on the sidewall with flat head screws in/through the rubber vibration base. The flat head screws were bypassing at least half of the rubber shock mounts. I replaced them with washer head screws which don't sink into the rubber.? What a difference that makes! I can barely hear the pump run now. ---In alinerchaleta-frames@..., <srtimm@...> wrote : I just put two loops of hose on either side of the water pump.? What an amazing reduction in noise.? It got rid of about 80% of it.? Plus it now makes a reasonable thumping noise, instead of a jack hammer that seemed like it was going to pull something loose. And what a cheap and easy solution too.? I bought two 20 inch "faucet hoses" from Ace Hardware, and also two plastic pieces to turn a female thread into a male thread.? The hoses cost $4.99 each, and the plastic pieces about 59 cents each. The install was real easy too.? Remove the 4 screws holding the pump in place, and also unscrew the hose fittings.? Move the pump over by about 1.5" to make room for the new loops of hose, then screw the pump back in and twist on the new hoses.? It takes about 15 minutes. I also put some silicon in the old screw holes in case there's ever a leak, it won't go directly into my floor. The pump is mounted on a piece of carpet in my trailer.? When you remount it, of course slide the carpet over with the pump.? Then just barely snug the screws holding the pump in place.? It makes less noise that way than with the screws in tight.? I figured that out because I ran the pump before I screwed it in to check for leaks, and that made less noise than afterwards.? So I loosened the screws a bit. |

Re: Water pump
Hi Fred,
The pump on our 2012 Expedition has not given us any problems yet, but on a recent trip I did notice that it didn't want to prime despite wiggling the camper which usually does the trick. This time opening the faucet to allow the air to escape did the trick. If you haven't tried that yet, it may help. Tim |

Re: Wind Cheeta
?Here's my take on the Wind Cheetah on my Aliner. It works as designed if you "set" it like a seatbelt with a quick pull. This takes up the slack and locks it in place. If anyone knows a way to quiet it down, I would love to reinstall it. : ) |

Re: Water take & lines
Sorry to misspell "tank"...challenges of arthritic fingers and tablet keyboards with auto correct.
I would encourage you to be able to camp in places without full electric and water hookups - there are some places in GA and north FL that you can get an exceptional experience by being able to unplug. ?Plus, most are super cheap (if not free), like the sites in the Apalachicola National Forest. It's a LOT different than even car tent camping when you're in your Aliner. ?If the A/C is your biggest reason, remember that spring and fall here in the deep south are not A/C weather -- just fans (and maybe a small heater every once in a while). Re: Water pump
The tank is very close to the pump. There isn't enough tool clearance to remove the four screws securing it to the sidewall so I remove the tank first.? Sounds like yours is attached to the floor. The strainer cover is designed to be removed by hand but there is no clearance for that. The pump looks like this one: With this strainer, Looks like the strainer could be moved with an extension. I wish I could get the strainer bowl off without removing the tank and pump. I just can't get my hand in there to twist it off. I thought about moving the tank, there is room but that would mean another 2" hole for the drain. Don't really want to cut another hole in the floor. 2" is way over sized for the drain port but its nearly impossible to install the drain valve with the tank in place.
