I used 3¡± x ?¡± ship¡¯s steel mounted vertically along the frame web, and would be easier to weld the cut stringers to.? A section of ¡°C¡± channel would also work well.? Since you¡¯re trying to reinforce the web (the vertical part of the frame box), and reinforcement should be along the web, not along the top or bottom of the frame box.

Since I'm wide open here I plenty of working space.? My spacing is different from yours.? I can cut the stringers and reweld.? And I could even double up the 3 x 2 x 1/8"?
