Re: Caulking

Hi Gang:

When we added a skylight to the front of our camper ( the best improvement ever! ) These were the steps we used:

1) Oak frame and trim for the inside.

2) Caulked the new skylight to roof and fastened it to the oak frame with 6 screws with washers. ( use double size hole to avoid stressing the plastic )

3) Covered edge of skylight with 4"?Eternabond Tape, overlapping pieces starting from the bottom.

4) Painted the whole roof with Cool Seal roof coating, completely covering the tape to where the skylight bubble starts.

Some day I want to replace the rear skylight, the one from 2000 is too cloudy to polish to clear. Plus I can make new inside trim to replace the plastic piece.

Carl.

Steve, I agree with your analysis.? If it's never been removed, then the seal under the flange is a two part epoxy that Aliner uses.? I looked into it when I replaced mine, but it was not a cost effective method for me.? Very expensive, and I think it required a special two chamber calking gun.??

When I removed mine, the epoxy had for the most part, crystalized.? The skylight came off very easy.? So obviously it wasn't stopping any water.
