Years ago I had the problem of the jack hitting pavement, hard to release, etc. I solved the problem permanently by installing three 4" chrome plumbing nipples and longer machine screws, thus raising the jack 4". It still has plenty of lift and never hits the pavement.?

I straightened the jack, I trimmed the bottom off and also added a spacer to lift the jack an inch higher. It helps.
