"Oh you don't want to displease Capin' Dance,"Cylas told Elisabeth.
?
"He's a sweet heart and loyal to the bone,"Keres said, chuckling at some obviously private joke.
?
"Get it, Cylas...to the bone?"
?
A door slammed somewhere in the house.
?
"Ah that would be my husband, Keres said happily.
?
A small man young of feature with white blond hair wandered in.
?
"I think Ive lost time gain. Such a sin," he complained and sighed.
?
Keres stared for a moment thoughtfully then shrugged. "Oh I'm sure it's fine, Darling."
Turning to Elisabeth she said,"I'll show you out."
?
She walked her to the door and bade her to return for a visit soon and..."Enjoy the cream."
?
She shut the door as soon as the other woman had gone through it.

"I really don't want to displease him at that," Elizabeth agreed with some hesitation. "Perhaps if I am introduced to him, he would understand me better and not be displeased? Unless of course I am not worthy of meeting him in person yet? Is he the leader over even you, Keres? Would he be observing my assignment personally? Do you think he really could find me unworthy? Well, I am not as well trained as some, but I intend to prove myself. Only, it would take time, that is all," Elizabeth uncertainly reassured and realized that her own words indeed supplied the reassurance she needed.
?
Elizabeth was not?entirely pleased with the?mention of bones however, an?unnerving image beginning to flood her mind. They did not seem to treat the idea as seriously as she would have perhaps,?so perhaps the dread on an indestructible skeleton was unfounded. But truly, one could not put anything past a barely understood organization that seemingly involved more than one creature with supernatural powers.
?
The young woman found the sound of a slamming door to be a pleasing distraction from her dark fears and darker memories of?her time in the Beyond. Idly noticing that the man did not seem to be?physically imposing, Elizabeth?had to wonder about his considerable mental powers. He would have to possess those to be worthy of a power like Keres.
?
Elizabeth left still engaged in a kind of stunned contemplation. The worry of displeasing the mysterious Captain Dance plaguing her mind and almost?making her lose the confidence. Fortunately the transformation in her did take place regardless of her emotions. Her skills kicked in when an unexpected robber accosted her on her way. Once she would have chided herself for choosing the barely lit alley that could lead to poorer neighborhoods, but now she was a different woman and relished the challenge.?Of course?only a few hours earlier she would have delivered a fatal blow in response to an unprovoked attack.
?
Now, since her heart was not fully in it, she settled on a half hearted blow. That knocked a tooth out of the man's mouth?and knocked the man himself to the ground. But did not kill him. "Perhaps, next time," Elizabeth spoke out loud, wondering if the man felt as reassured as she started feeling again.?Despite some confusion, some uncertainty and the implied threat of Captain Dance, Elizabeth felt fairly well about herself when she came back to Victor's house.????

The leader over even her? Keres didn't like that question. There were wrong answers and answers no one was allowed to touch...to know, not even her. She wanted to say that of course he was the leader, older than all of them, but no. This was not true now. She was the leader, at least over Dance yet he could operate very well on his own.
?
?
"No. He is not the leader over me. Only over Cylas but then again everyone is, aren't they Cylas," Keres said with a low taunting laugh of amusement. "Just don't misstep in an obvious way and Dance should not be a problem for you."
?
She waved when Elisabeth left and then went to attend her husband. He had news of his new job and she was eager to hear it. It would take patients, his new job, but it would open so many ways for their organization. SO many ways to take their enemies down...down where they deserved to be.
?
Cylas, however, watched Elisabeth and when she had gone into Victor's abode, he returned for the would-be robber and beat him to death. It would be amusing for Victor as well as Elisabeth to discover the body so close to their property on the morrow he thought cheerfully.

Victor was still in bed; he heard something that sounded like someone coming through the door, and awoke?slowly. This did not sit well with him, for there was a time not so long ago, when he would have awakened much more quickly, being very much startled by the entrance of someone. But now, he found it was harder for him to wake up, he was so very tired, and just wanted to keep sleeping.

Idly he wondered to himself, are?my potions doing for me what they should? They¡¯ve always worked before but, is it time to change to something new, something different? He listened, someone was in the house, of course it could be the servants, it could be an intruder, but then he remembered, had it all been a dream yesterday, or had he actually brought his beloved Elizabeth back to life? It had been real, he reassured himself, as he slowly stood, and made his way toward the sound.

Once he was a bit closer, he called in a voice only slightly more elevated than his conversational one, Elizabeth?? Is that you, Love?

God loves you.

It could have been more difficult to pretend being the same na?ve girl if she didn't have a purpose to guide her. She may have been uncertain about many things still, including the mystery of this Captain Dance, and the strange dread of her being eradicated by him, but she did have that inspiration from Keres. An idea that something grater was there for her. That if she did it well enough and did not get caught, she would live to see the thrill in all of it. That, further she could contribute to great changes in the world. Perhaps be officially acknowledged by the organization, even that Captain Dance fellow. It was all relevant for the future of course.
?
But it inspired her to patiently pursue her goals. Which at this point implied reassuring Victor. Until she was ready to proceed and do otherwise. "Yes, my dear," Elizabeth softly responded, delighted that her tone sounded as casual as she had imagined it while practicing it in her head. No more sugary sweet, nor more intense hostility. She didn't need any of it. Was above all of it now, at least for the moment.
?
"Me and my good friend Keres had a jolly little chat. I feel less at odds now than I did.?Her lotion?probably helped matters. I put it on my skin, and it began feeling less monstrous by the moment. You should really invest your prodigious talents into lotions, Victor. I am telling you, they are the future for they would be so popular with the ladies," Elizabeth conversationally declared. "But yes, I certainly feel better now," she concluded, considered a smile, discarded it as unnecessarily fake and instead simply settled down onto his, theirs bed. ?????

I am most glad and reassured to hear that you are feeling better, he told her, his tone sincere; sometimes, it helps just to talk with a good friend, and I do believe the lotions are helping you. You are right I am sure, he replied when she suggested that he invest his talents in lotions. Seeing as how they have helped you so much, and if I continue to see such in the future, that will be very much a valid consideration of mine to do so.

His expression was one of incredulity when she settle down up on their bed. Do you still need that sleeping potion of which we spoke earlier, he asked. ?he considered offering to make love to her, but perhaps she might not be quite ready for that yet, he decided, after all, it had been a long day, they had run?quite the emotional gamut, from simply talking and discussing, to arguing, and even striking at each other, or rather, she had struck?at him. Elizabeth accepted Victor's agreement with a pleased yawn. It has been a tiresome day but she was over it now. His question made her think though. Her first instinct was to accept the potion from him, because it could not hurt and would ensure proper sleep. Yet she learned so many new things today. About herself and what she could do, her great purpose, About her Victor probably lying to her, much as she'd suspected. She has learned to control herself, and overcome seemingly strong physical opposition. It would might undermine her sense of accomplishment if she started relying on the potion. Especially if there were nefarious ingredients in it. Previously none of it mattered, it seemed like the only solution. But now...
?
"You know, my dear, I will try?to sleep without the potion now. I feel fairly,?well, at least more confident than I was. I think if I keep it up, with my confidence level, I could scare away the nightmares. Fight off the squeezing hands, and ignore the?dark voices of the abyss. I think I will just try to sleep and see if I can. If I cannot, I will gladly take you up on your offer," Elizabeth thoughtfully decided, trying not to look too eager, too confident, lest it drew undue suspicion.
?
"You may hold me, but I doubt I shall be able to perform my wifely duties. I am so exhausted," Elizabeth?explained with?a very convincing?yawn. She figured that some limited physical contact may be in order, if she were to play her part right. That would?make a good practice, especially since she took care to protect herself from anything too disturbing. ??

Now, since her heart was not fully in it, she settled on a half hearted blow. That knocked a tooth out of the man's mouth?and knocked the man himself to the ground. But did not kill him.
I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed.
I get along with the voices inside of my head.

?
"What? was she doing here? And who is she," Saddler asked.
?
Keres smiled at her husband, then gave a low chuckle before replying. She watched, eyes eager on his for reaction as she explained just who they had in their midst. His smile soon grew along with hers and he let out a low chuckle.
?
"We have had equally productive days it seems. They let me in. They don't suspect me at all and eventually we will have, through me, access to all of their monsters. Do you know how many poor creatures they have captive?!"
?
Keres sighed. "I can guess," she said dryly.
?
Soon she wandered to the window and resting her hands on the ledge, stared out toward Victor Frankenstein's dwelling.
I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed.
I get along with the voices inside of my head.

Victor was delighted that Elizabeth seemed to be more open to him now than she had been before. Perhaps the new friend she had met had helped her somehow, he thought to himself, as he gently took her in his arms and held her. But something was tugging at him as well, in spite of her reassuring words, she had been too angry, too distant with him before, and now¡, What was he supposed to think??

Are you certain you are up for this, Love? Please do not feel as if you have to go along, simply to please me; it is after all, only your first day back, and I know there are things to which you must become a custom. Just let me know what you want, and we will see that it is done. If you would rather wait, then, we wait. If you want to go forward with this, then we go forward, it is up to you, my dearest Elizabeth.

Although he was pleased, and pleasantly surprised at her actions, and did not wish to ruin the moment, he could not help wondering what, if anything, she had planned. A small part of him was fearful, probably because he did not feel he deserved her, and yet here she was, seeming to be all in favor of what he wanted to do.

God loves you.

Elizabeth stared for a brief second. Victor's question caught her by surprise. It was kind. But more than that. His passion reminded her of how things were. She thought she was over it all by now. That she was only playing along. And yet, just as part of her felt affronted that she had to put up with more of Victor's affection, the other part inside remembered what it was like. To love and be loved. To be joined in a holy union. To fully trust and rely on her partner.
?
But overall it was not in Victor's favor that she has remembered. That he has asked her a question she would have believed so considerate once, but now was not certain how to interpret. It was in fact that very part that remembered love, that also remembered the feeling of betrayal. And it was that part that felt the angriest, over the one wishing to keep playing. Playing was safer. Like starting a new page, pretending to be someone else. Remembering led to feeling. And feeling led to sense of betrayal, disgust and agony, all contained within the bubble of self restraint that this time would not burst.
?
She could not allow it to burst. The game had to be played this time no matter what she felt. She had a goal in mind that was greater than herself. But, she didn't have to surrender to her helplessness either, Elizabeth reminded herself, her breathing becoming more relaxed once more. He did give her a way out after all.
?
"I am sorry, my dear. Once again you are the wiser between the two of us. I am so weary. It didn't take for my feeble muscles to get weary. Ah, the woman's lot. Already I am sporting a headache from this uncomfortable position. Rest assured, I have not forgotten your need and shall attend to it. But until I am able, perhaps it is indeed better for me to retire love, rather than give you only half of my attention," Elizabeth allowed herself an embarrassed chuckle at her words. It did not sound quite right to her own ears, but with her being tired, perhaps it would not evoke too much suspicion, she?inwardly reassured herself. ?

Victor nodded, his expression looking concerned. A headache? Shall I rub your neck for you? He reached to rub her neck, not hoping for anything in return, just simply because he wanted to do something nice for his wife, to help welcome her home.

You know that I would never insist on you doing anything which you did not wish to do, or what you did not feel up to. I would much rather exercise patience, and have all of you, your full, undivided attention when the time is right, then insist on making love now, and only have half of you. ?his restraint was made easier only because of his extreme fatigue, but in spite of the fatigue, he found that he still wanted her, still desired her, they had yet to consummate their wedding night after all. It had been so rudely and untimely interrupted, and Victor could not help feeling a surge of anger at this, which he did his best to conceal. She must not feel that he was angry with her. Very well then, good night, my dear Elizabeth. Unless of course there is something else you need to talk with me about, we shall have our rest, and continue our discussions in the morning, as well as searching for a priest, if you would still like to speak with one. Meanwhile, is there anything I can do, or get for you? As tired as he was, Victor did not feel that he could make another step at the present moment, but for his beloved Elizabeth, he would walk around the entire known world.

God loves you.

Are you certain you are up for this, Love? Just let me know what you want, and we will see that it is done. If you would rather wait, then, we wait. Victor smiled to hear Elizabeth¡¯s answer, grateful to whatever higher power, Fate, luck, whatever, had brought about this change in his wife.?
I am most glad and reassured to hear that you are feeling better, he told her, his tone sincere; sometimes, it helps just to talk with a good friend, and I do believe the lotions are helping you. You are right I am sure, he replied when she suggested that he invest his talents in lotions. Seeing as how they have helped you so much, and if I continue to see such in the future, that will be very much a valid consideration of mine to do so.

His expression was one of incredulity when she settle down up on their bed. Idly he wondered to himself, are?my potions doing for me what they should? They¡¯ve always worked before but, is it time to change to something new, something different? In part, Elizabeth felt almost guilty at playing the game. It was so tempting to go back to the comfort of just being Victor's faithful wife. The lady of the house. It used to be sufficient once. Unfortunately, things have changed and this was no longer the case. Things were not enough any longer. She needed more. She was a monster. A superhuman perhaps. A super villain, certainly. She need to live up to her fullest potential. And living the life of deception with her once certain bright love, was not going to accomplish any of it.
?
"A massage, that would have been so tempting. But I suppose my poor achy muscles would merely relax on their own, after I go to sleep. Water sounds nice though, I do feel so thirsty and I haven't noticed the regular water pitcher on the table. Did...Abby simply forget to place it? The servant's name is Abby, isn't it?" Elizabeth added, realizing that her interest of the internal workings of the house coincided with her failing memory. Unless, she would have preferred to get the water herself, and no longer cared who that bloody woman was, she corrected herself, experiencing a strange thrill at the surprising bout of inner defiance.
?
"Yes, at any rate, I could have some water if you don't mind," Elizabeth suddenly interrupted her own train of thoughts, realizing it would do her no good, while her work of subterfuge could do wonders instead. Being a good, dependent, innocent little wife. Yes, Victor would buy this?story, mainly because he wanted to see it coming true. So long as she did not betray herself in any manner, Elizabeth reminded herself, pulling the bed sheet towards herself and away from Victor.????

So perhaps, he thought, the lovemaking could wait for a while. He?made his way to the opposite side of the bed, and lay down beside her, being careful not to get too close, so as not to crowd her.

It was all relevant for the future of course.?

Victor was still in bed; he heard something that sounded like someone coming through the door, and awoke?slowly. This did not sit well with him, for there was a time not so long ago, when he would have awakened much more quickly, being very much startled by the entrance of someone. But now, he found it was harder for him to wake up, he was so very tired, and just wanted to keep sleeping.?

Only, it would take time, that is all," Elizabeth uncertainly reassured and realized that her own words indeed supplied the reassurance she needed.?
He would have to possess those to be worthy of a power like Keres.?

?
She shut the door as soon as the other woman had gone through it.?
I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed.
I get along with the voices inside of my head.

Victor gave a nod of acquiescence, yes, the servant girl for the evening is named Abby, but unfortunately she has the night off this evening. The other one is relatively new, and seems to have forgotten to place the water pitcher; I will get the water for you. He was out of bed in an instant, but finding that he staggered slightly on his feet, he quickly caught his balance, and moved fast away from the bed to get the water. He brought it back to her, thinking of how she had pulled the cover away from him. Here you are, My love, he told her, as he gracefully poured the water into a waiting glass. He wondered to himself why The evening servant had placed two glasses, but not the water pitcher. But he gave it not much more thought, supposing that it was simply from being nervous from still being new on the job.

I apologize that our servant forgot the water pitcher, he told Elizabeth. Please excuse her, she is new, and seemingly quite easily distracted. Likely some other task claimed her attention before she could fill the pitcher, and she forgot it. It won¡¯t happen again, if it does, she will be severely reprimanded, and if it continues¡, He spread his hands in a gesture of dismissal.

He then proceeded to pour himself a glass, having poured hers. He took a long, refreshing drink, then gently replaced the glass on the table. Now, is there anything else you would like before we retire for the evening?
