Re: How can I make bi-directional die holder??? #adjustment #diy
The 3 jaw chuck scroll bearing is where most can found for errors. A low cost chuck can have as must as 0.0015" bearing clearance and highly costly chuck as little as 0.000,15 clearance. A machinist?

Re: Milling attachment for mini lathe
Heartily agree! Mine is parked on the back of the bench, leaning against the wall while it waits to be used in something that needs a pre-painted piece of sheet metal. Roy

Re: Milling attachment for mini lathe
Here's my chip guard modification on Grizzly 7x12.? Needed more room when I got a compound upgrade so I bent it back at the base and made a bracket? to support the headstock end.? Worked out nicely

Re: Milling attachment for mini lathe
As I cant reach much behind the bench to the wall, I just use cardboard for everything. Backboard, under lathe swarf catchment, mill chip guards and such. I get a lot of cardboard boxes thus I can use

Re: Milling attachment for mini lathe
I never thought the idea of a backsplash like that scaled down very well to a mini-lathe.? At some point, it just makes it too crowded for access even just for ease of cleaning.? Many other small

Re: Milling attachment for mini lathe
I need to either remove or extend the backsplash mounting ( Ted Hanson¡¯s book has a how to on that) in order to get more working area, since the whole thing runs into the backsplash before I run out

Re: Milling attachment for mini lathe

Re: Erratic spindle speed

Re: Adjusting Gears Just Right
Like the pdf how complex it can be . The way I found is paper between the gears on setup. It fast and easy. Most gears like a gap of 0.005" [0.12mm] . You adjust the paper layers till gears run quite.

Re: Adjusting Gears Just Right
Here's that gear problem picture. Adding an M8 washer on the Stud moved Gear B off contacting the Left Bracket and gears engage more - is that a reasonable solution?
Re: Milling attachment for mini lathe
I like photos posted It helps see how others did the setup. This not my first mill attachment. I had a Pamgram on 9A South Bend back in the 1960's. Then did not know what I was doing. I learn with

Re: Adjusting Gears Just Right
I read somewhere (don't remember) that if you use a slip of thin paper (newsprint works well) between the gears, that is the clearance you need. You crush the paper as you mesh the gears and tighten.
