Oops the pics didn't come through with the message on the 4x6 Yahoo site?(though it was there in the email notification). Don't understand it but I'll repeat and see if it comes through this time.? Sorry - jv?

Yahoo is having many problems. One of them is attachments not showing up on the message board.

Yahoo stopped their customer support for these groups.

? Crap , they snipped my reply . I said to check out groups.io , at least one of the email lists I read has already gone over there .

I emailed the owner of this group with the link to Groups.IO telling him that Yahoo groups have many glitches. Files go missing and photos go missing.

I use to have about 35 yahoo groups and many where the files have gone missing and photos gone missing. I created about 18 IO groups to take the place of Yahoo groups. IO Techs copied what info thay could over to the new groups.

I offered my help but I did not get a reply from the owner.

Hopefully the great info here will not be lost because Yahoo left the group owners high and dry as well as the members.

I would never try to take someones group. I have helped others to get their groups copied over to Groups.IO. I created the new group and invited the owner of the yahoo group to it and made them co-owner, then the owner of the Yahoo group made me either a co-owner or Moderator with full access so I could get the group info copied over.

I did download all the files just in case they do disappear. I recommend other do the same. I have seen many groups lose the files and photos. A lot of photos in this group were gone earlier. Hopefully they wil come back.

But it simple to do. If the owner of this group wants help they can email me.?

What’s happened to Yahoo WRT Attachments is as follows (or was as late as Saturday):

?

There are four setting choices for each Yahoo Group that are accessible to Owners and some Moderators.

?

1)? Only plain text (strip out and delete all HTML and Attachments)

2)? HTML? (strip out and delete all Attachments)

3) ?HTML? (strip out all Attachments and store them on accessible on Yahoo)

4)? HTML (pass Attachments through attached to all reflected mail)

?

Recently, #3 suddenly began behaving as #4.? Meaning that Attachments should get reflected with the messages that they are attached to.

?

There is one Exception that has been happening for at least two years.? Messages from certain people, or perhaps I should say from people using certain mail managers or maybe certain OS’s, gets past Yahoo and shows up in the body of the reflected message as a solid black rectangular box.? I believe that these were supposed to be photographs.

?

But the bottom line is that for the past several months, Yahoo has not been storing any photographs that are sent as attachments to messages in the heretofore normal location on their servers.

Casca92,

?

Whether a Yahoo Group allows attachments or not is a setting accessible to owners and some moderators.? The same is true of Groups.IO, although the choices are not exactly the same.

Yes

I reset the attachment feature to go out to members that receive emails from the group. But many complained that some attachments were large in size and took forever to load.

It was when the files and photos disappeared I had to make a decision to move my groups to Groups.IO

Worse part is the files come and go as well as the photos. Yesterday half of the photos in this group were gone. I did not check them today to see if they are back.

Some group owners did not know this was happening, that is why I sent and email to the group owners address on the homepage of this group.

But it is up to the group owner what they want to do.

Some groups the owners walked a way from the group and left the group without someone that could make the decision.

I belong to or administer several message groups. Yes, some members still have very slow connections. Attached messages are a real burden to those users. It is always far better to post your picture at a hosting site and then just put a link in your group message. The end user then has the option to download or ignore based on their individual time and bandwidth needs. There are many places to post photos. Some are free. I was a big user of PhotoBucket until they screwed their user agreement. I'm now using PostImage but there are other options. Learn how to post. Learn how to capture a reference link.

The files and photos haven’t been lost (at least not so far on any of the Groups that I am a member of).? But sometimes you cannot display or in the case of files, download them.? That problem has been worse with photos than with files.

?

I know what you mean about some Owners just abandoning their Groups.? On one that I’m a member of, we are about to lose 15 years worth of posts, questions and answers, and probably members.? We are moving somewhere, but I had to start a new Group and start trying to get the old members to move to it.? So far, only about 3% of the members of record have done so.? Which probably means what you think it means.?

?

On another one, we invited the Groups.io member, made it a Moderator, ?and sent the request email last Wednesday but so far, they haven’t done anything that I can see.? The owners of the remaining 20 or so have so far done nothing AFAIK.

Attachments are not always a good thing. There's always a risk of malware.

In a group like this people, there's a tendency for people to lower their guard when they shouldn't - and they'll think something is safe/trustworthy, when it actually isn't.

I agree that not having the ability to use attachments is inconvenient; but in today's world, blocking attachments is a necessity - at least for me. If I don't know the sender personally, there's not much chance I will open any attachments.

While most of us are good guys; and were here to learn/help -- not all are.

The 1st "people" it the sentence below is a typo. Not trying to argumentative/offensive - which is how what I wrote reads with it in there. Sorry - all.
