Re: Premium Group renewal fee is due this month

Yahoo Groups is not a thing, but 开云体育 is. We've been here, what, two years or so now? And the reason for being here still more or less in the Yahoo format is that we have a great deal of useful info that was worth saving. AFAIAC, this IS a great forum, or I wouldn't be here. YMMV, of course!

I was trying to avoid having to save some for next year. Had an auto accident last week that reminded me that no matter how young or old you are, tomorrow is not guaranteed. Luckily, though my newish (April this year) car was totaled, neither my wife nor I were seriously injured. Bumps, bruises, and abrasions are all she got, and she was on the impact side, just in front of the damaged area. I've got a couple of bruises, and a sore neck and shoulder. I was driving, made a left turn with the light, which changed to yellow as I entered the intersection. Young guy who hit me was also driving a new car, and swore I ran the red light. Unfortunately for him, I had a dash cam that shows otherwise, though I couldn't show the video to the cop on the scene, so I got ticketed. Both insurance companies have gotten copies of the video, as has the cop. I'll be talking to the court after my insurance pays off, which should be sometime next week.

Now I have to figure a way to get something my wife can ride in. She has a very hard time getting in and out of my old Chevy truck. Better gas mileage would be nice, too. The truck gets 15mpg or so on? a good day. My poor little Accent was averaging 40mpg. And She has decided that she really wants the safety features of the newer cars. She is convince the side curtain and seat-side air bags kept her from getting hurt worse.?

Other than that, all is good! And thank you for donating!

Another option is pipe- I installed a short section of 1.5"OD (I think) between the mill drill and the Nichols horizontal mill.? I also made the trolley which supports the chain hoist.? It doesn't get used very often, but it's nice to have when I need it.? Capacity is probably around 150lbs.??

Another option if you only require light weight lifting, say less than 100lbs would be the rails for overhead sectional garage doors. You could have two rails opposite each other if you wanted to make it stronger and a dual wheel truck between the two rails using the little wheels/axle from the door section. I'll bet this stuff gets dumped fairly often when people change the colour of their garage door and could get it free or cheap!

I notice as I’m gettin’ older, things like my 6” mill vise, and my angle table, are gaining wait. I’ve been thinking on using unistrut for a small trolley & lift.

Think of it as the old type of rail system used in a meat processing factory where each carcass is on a sliding hook that runs along the rail and has gates that close between rails to move product to different areas. This is actually what I have, my property is an old bacon and small meat goods factory which still had some of the rails and gate systems left in it when I got the place. I've cut it down and moved it to the area I use as my metal workshop.

Even though I had everything, it has still take a lot of time to get it cut to size and everything lining up correctly. I've had to modify the gate lengths to make everything fit in the right place. I won't be able to easily change the configuration of things once it is all done so I've spent a lot of time measuring twice and cutting multiple times too! Realistically it is over kill for what I need, it will easily handle 100kg (220lbs), but it was free since I had all the materials.

I figure I can get the rail & hangers etc at Home Depot, next time I make a trip to the big city. Not something anyone is going to ship for free, 'less a guy buys a truckload of it!
They don't carry the trolley like I want at most places, but that does seem like a decent price for a couple from the Amazonians. Hard to build 'em for that price I think.?

Re: Over head rail project.

Yes the far end of the building still smells like bacon, the old smoking room is still there. That was back when they used salt to cure, with real fires and wood smoke to favour the bacon, rather than the nitrates and artificial flavour liquids.

I've seen others that have used jib cranes to load equipment on to mills. One was small and could be moved/reattached to each machine round the shop, that was a clever idea. Otherwise you just have to position your equipment in the right place for the crane to reach each machine.

??? ??? That is a pretty darn good price there . That style gives you a few extra mounting options . I think of the ones I have left some have a eye bolt & the others have a small vertical plate.

??? ??? There's a lot moor options on that link I sent then when I used to buy them , & some of the options I could have used years back . Unistrut is kinda like drywall screws 1000 & 1 uses .

Enco was good for that. I started getting two of everything they mailed out, after my wife ordered some stuff from them. She used my account, but used her name on the ship to address, so she got added to the mailing list.?
Couldn’t stop em. I tried. Finally ended when Enco was fully absorbed by MSC and went away.?

I was planning on getting this style of trolley:?

Real bearings, not the garage door roller things!

Beeline…..I forgot about those guys! Thanks! I got an old Beeline catalog somewhere, from back when I worked for a livin’! Global Supply is another one that often has good pricing.

Far as I’ve got so far, is looking at McMaster Carr. They sell the trolleys and strut etc., but they are not where I want to buy from. They always have stock, but seldom the best price.?

And you can’t beat the price!?
I had a friend of mine who picked up the leftovers of a similar monorail system from a mill they tore down. He installed it in his shop, which started it’s life as a 4-car garage.?

I notice as I’m gettin’ older, things like my 6” mill vise, and my angle table, are gaining wait. I’ve been thinking on using unistrut for a small trolley & lift.

?At Mike Allen's request here is a bit of information on the over head rail I'm putting up in my workshop to enable loading lathe and mill from work bench with tooling or material. Basically it is 2.5"x0.5" flat bar supported from the ceiling as a rail and a gate system to enable changing direction of a slider with chain block attached. See attached photo for progress so far.
