Re: Oil way or grease nipples in main pivot area?

My Grizz saw is somewhere around 12 or 15 years old.

I have not so much as sprayed WD40 on the pivot, and it¡¯s still as tight as it was.

I do a lot of cutting.

There is not a lot of load on that joint, by any stretch. Think about that.

Since you drilled holes already, it would be easy enough to just give each a shot of oil now & then.

Much like ways on a lathe or mill. ?

30wt motor oil, or any light oil really, would be fine.

Subject: [4x6bandsaw] Oil way or grease nipples in main pivot area?

?

Finally getting to reassemble my saw after John helped me mill the bed parallel to the pivot arm. Thought I would test out the capability of the new mailing list, I've attached a photo of the pivot ears on the base end with holes I've drilled to help lubricate the pivot pin.

I was going to drill and tap to fit m6x1 grease nipples but a little concerned that will weaken the casting too much as the ears are only 15mm thick. Currently the holes are 3mm and was thinking of just leaving them as is and putting some slideway oil I have in there (very sticky stuff) to lube the pin rather than put the grease nipples in.

Any thoughts from you on this, any one already put something in to lubricate the main pivot pin? My pin shows wear marks so while things are apart I would like to make sure it gets the lube it needs.

Thanks
Steve
