From your description, I think I know what it is. The 4x6 saws can be
used in the vertical position. When in the vertical mode, a work surface
plate is mounted on the lower blade guide assembly. It has a brace
(bracket) that supports the rear of the plate. The part sounds like the
support bracket.

BTW: funny thing... My manual has a warning (in the best pigeon
english) that the saw is NOT to be used in the vertical mode. However,
it came with the surface plate and the bracket. Go figure! 8-)
